    Around the MLB:

Darrell Evans of the Atlanta Braves ended the season with 63 homeruns, setting a new mark for power excellence. He is only 26 years old so it should be interesting to see where his power numbers end up when its all said and done.

    MLB Retirements:

Fred Gladding of the Detroit Tigers retired after the Tigers last game after spending all 12 of his big league seasons in Motown. Gladding was 52-36 with a 3.01 and a Detroit record 168 saves, good for 7th all time. He appeared in 426 games and his best season was 1968 when he compiled a mark of 5-1 with a 1.23 ERA with 19 saves in 21 chances.

MLB Injuries: (Only listing the injuries that impact the postseason)

Jim Fregosi of the California Angels will miss the whole postseason and the beginning of next year with a broken ankle suffered while turning a double play. This is a huge loss for the Angels headed into their ALCS matchup against the Red Sox. Fregosi hit .274 12-69 this year. He appeared in 152 of California's 162 games, so his production will be tough to replace.

Up next are final team statistics and League Standings!

    1973 NLCS Game Three
San Fransisco Giants at New York Mets

Ron Swoboda hit a 2 run HR in the 6th inning, and it was all the runs the Mets would get, but it was enough as Gary Gentry pitched 8 1/3 innings of 1 run ball keeping the Met season alive in a 2-1 Game Three victory.

    Re: Impossible Dream???

    1973 World Series Game Seven
Boston Red Sox at San Fransisco Giants

Boston took a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning on a RBI groundout by Rico Petrocelli and a 2 run double by Dwight Evans. The Giants got one back in the 3rd on a single by former Sox Oscar Brown, but Boston got that run back on a solo HR by Reggie Smith in the 5th to give Boston a 4-1 lead. Oscar Brown then drove in pinch hitter Willie McCovey in the bottom of the 5th to bring San Fransisco back to within two again, at 4-2. In the bottom of the 6th, Joe Ferguson and Tito Fuentes each had RBI singles to tie the game at 4. It stayed tied at 4 until the 8th, when the Sox left Fergie Jenkins in the game too long when Mack Jones hit a leadoff HR to give the Giants a 5-4 lead. Sparky Lyle was brought into the game and promptly gave up a 2nd straight solo HR, this one to Joe Ferguson, which made the score 6-4 entering the 9th. The Red Sox first two hitters went quietly, then Reggie Smith and Toby Harrah went back to back with two outs in the 9th off Bob Reynolds to tie the game at 6. Cecil Upshaw came into the game in the bottom of the 9th inning and gave up a one out single to Dave Kingman, he then walked Ron Santo, and with two outs in the bottom of the 9th, Joe Ferguson came up and delivered an RBI single to right center, giving the Giants a 7-6 victory and their 2nd World Series title in 5 years! Dave Kingman was named World Series MVP, going 11-29 (.379) with 6 RBI.
