MLB Trade News:

We made a couple of trades this past week, the first saw Boston send OF Juan Beniquez to the Kansas City Royals in exchange for OF Billy Conigliaro. We lost the younger Conigliaro in the expansion draft and have been trying to get him back since. Beniquez was a 4th roundpick who blossomed this past offseason into a viable prospect. Conigliaro was hitting .350 with 4 HR and 22 RBI so far this year in AA.

The second trade was a larger move as we sent P Charlie Hough to the Washington Senators in exchange for P Dick Ruthven and IF Toby Harrah. This trade all but ends the chance that we will resign Ron Santo once the season is over. Harrah hit .336 4-28 in AAA this year after hitting .378 15-99 in AA last year. Ruthven if a former 1st round pick, who seems to be developing slowly, but developing nonetheless. He 4-2 2.85 in 7 starts this year in A ball. Basically our feeling about the knuckleball had changed. I just don't trust it, so I felt moving Hough for someone who will be a staple in the lineup for years was something we had to do.

Charlie Hough wasn't the biggest name pitcher the Senators acquired this week as they send P Dennis Lamp, P Dennis Leonard, and P Butch Metzger to Milwaukee in exchange for Brewer ace Milt Pappas. This gives the Senators a 1-5 that is as good as anyone in baseball. The 3 minor leaguers were tough to give up, but Pappas becomes Washington's solid number 2.
