Offense-The Phillie offense is lead by Johnny Briggs (.320 24-91), Dick Allen (.319 22-81) and Deron Johnson (.274 29-90). There isn't much else.

Pitching-3 main pitchers Rick Wise (13-16 3.64), Dick Ellsworth (14-9 2.97) and Larry Jackson (19-10 3.95), get help from Bob Locker (7-2 2.84) signed away from the Chicago White Sox.

    St. Louis Cardinals (projected 91-71)

Pitching-This is where the Cubs could make some noise as their top four will rival anyone else in the majors with Ken Holtzman (17-16 3.52), Fergie Jenkins (12-12 2.95) Ray Culp (7-6 3.66) and Luis Tiant (10-1 2.46). Dick Radatz (1-9 7.86 12/13 in save chances) still has the closers job for some reason.

Offense-Donn Clendenon (.306 29-106), Richie Hebner (.278 23-93), and Bill Mazeroski (.281 10-77) lead this offense with help from Matty Alou (.313 6-53) and Al Oliver (.313 8-63).

The bullpen has some nice young arms in Reggie Cleveland, Pedro Borbon, Lowell Palmer and Jerry Cram.

    Cincinnati Reds (projected 81-81)
Offense-Pete Rose (.297 4-62) is the sparkplug, but Vada Pinson (.325 23-96) and Tony Perez (.281 20-91) are the power that makes this machine go. They get help from Art Shamsky (.287 18-77) and Floyd Robinson (.259 17-72).

Pitching-Donn Nottebart (17-12 2.99) is the aging ace, who will end up losing that title to young Gary Nolan (10-12 4.51), or Sammy Ellis (11-8 2.94). Gerry Arrigo (7-8 4.56) will be the 4th starter.

    Around the MLB:

Kansas City sends OF Scott Reid
Los Angeles sends P Greg Shanahan P Dave Pagan P Mike Cosgrove
I'm not crazy about this deal from KC's end as Reid was their only real leadoff threat. They pick up 3 average minor leaguers. If any of them become anything special, I'll be shocked.

Up next for Boston and ending April is 6 games at home, the first 3 against the California Angels, then the White Sox come to town.

    W-Joe Moeller (5-0) L-Dennis Ribant (3-3)

May 13-Oakland avoided the sweep, as Reggie Jackson drove in Cesar Tovar with a single in the bottom of the 10th inning in the 5-4 win. (25-11)
    W-Pete Mikkelsen (2-3) L-Rolllie Fingers (0-1)

    Around the MLB:

The Red Sox and Chicago Cubs have come to terms on a deal that sends IF Ron Hunt and minor league pitcher Fred Wenz to the North Side in exchange for a couple of minor league prospects, Billy North and Roger Moret. Hunt was solid for us last year, but he had lost his role with Don Money moving to second. North has blazing speed and was hitting .399 1-27 and was 13/15 in steal chances in A ball. He's still got some time before he'll make an impact. Moret on the other hand will probably step in next season. He was 3-1 1.98 in AA ball and will start in AAA with the Red Sox.

    The other deal saw:
Baltimore sends P Dennis Leonard P Jesse Jefferson
    Washington sends P Jan Dukes
Right now, this deal favors Baltimore, but if Leonard and Jefferson mature as expected, Washington will have gotten two top end starters for a reliever.

Up next is another homestand that sees Oakland come to town for 3 followed by the Milwaukee Brewers making a trip to Fenway for three games!

    Around the MLB:

    W-Jerry Stephenson (3-1) L-Darek Bronson (0-1)

    Around the MLB:

San Diego sends P Steve Mingori
    Oakland sends P Doyle Alexander
I like this trade alot for the Padres. Mingori was a solid bullpen arm, but if Alexander develops, then they get a top end starter.

Also, Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves picked up his 3000th hit, a bunt single off Jack Fisher of the New York Mets, in a 2-1 Brave win. Boxscore and linescore of the inning below:
