I have a hard time feeling sorry for him, but do wish him the best of luck. As a friend of mine used to say, I'd play baseball for a hot dog and a coke. Too many people feel like they deserve whatever they want.
I have no (or very little) sympathy for anyone who turns down 1m$+ for Sports
The sadness part is the waste of talent (like Josh Hamilton) which others would have used better ( Im thinking over achievers like Eckstein or Pedrioa of the Sox)
I can't imagine turning down a signing bonus as a first round pick. Your arm could fall off the next day and you'd still have it. I can see not wanting to play for a low payroll team but between the signing bonus and the chance of getting traded to a team you want to be on I'd go for it.
exactly.
greed always seems to come back to bite, eventually. It happens to some quicker than other's is all.
honestly though, these things never happen completely due to the player. whoever his agent was ought to be castrated.

He changed agents twice because they advised him to take the money - it was his father & him who "thought" he was worth more...Nice "paternalism" maybe it will lead to "patricide"...
well... probably true, but there is this:
then aparently they sued him, and got Scott Boras...Harrington's agent, Tommy Tanzer, said that the Rockies had agreed to a pre-draft $4.95 million deal before reneging on it, a charge the Rockies denied.
what a mess. idiots.

They still offered 3mill + I know what I would d with it... (imagine the retirement package you could set up)

GUILT complex ?
Then again, it was the Rockies the first time. That place is a death sentence on pitchers. SD is pretty nice from what I hear though...............
yea but, a signing bonus... i mean, come on! Add to that, major league management (for what it's worth) plus major league medical, and the experience...
Besides, I think all MLB GM's take Colorado pitchers numbers with a grain on salt these days.
