I guess there saying that they think something was wrong with the plane because it was flying "eratically" before it plunged into the building.

Our NBC News Station in Philadelphia showed a 10 second clip showing the apartment building on fire and said "A plane crash in New York leaves citizens fearing of another terrrorist attack" and then showed a shot of Lidle pitching and said "And in other news a former Phillie died tragically today in Manhattan." What a bunch of idiots. Thats Philly for ya. They failed to realize the connection.

The official word was no word until they contact next of kin. Someone lower in the NYC system spilled it. Supposedly they found Lidles' passport on the sidewalk below, and that's (I'm assuming) how it got out to some people.

Yeah but this was on the 11 o'clock at news. So it was hours after his family had been told of this tragedy. It's just another case of Philadephians with their heads up their "hineys". They are still talking about Terrell Owens for half of the news around here.

Yes that's what i heard to, that his passport was found on the sidewalk and that's when people started to think it might have been him.

I believe it is official now. The MLB is reporting it with a memorial on their front page...

    Re: Cory Lidle dead

Cory Lidle actually pitched an inning in spring training for the Brewers,as a replacement player during the strike. Just a little know fact. He got paid $80 for that appearance. He also was looked down at by alot of players for being a replacement player. A tremendous tragedy. I feel bad for his wife and son.
    From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Lidle pitched for the Mets in 1997, a year after being traded by the Milwaukee Brewers for catcher Kelly Stinnett. Lidle pitched for two seasons in the Brewers' farm system after being purchased from an independent team in Pocatello, Idaho, in September 1993.

During the spring of 1995, when major-league players were on strike, Lidle agreed to cross over from the Brewers' minor-league camp to participate in exhibition games with replacement players. He pitched one inning of relief, and thus was labeled a "scab" by the players union.

Because he played in that spring game, which Lidle later said he was coerced to do, he was never allowed to join the union. He also was treated as an outcast by some teammates, but that stigma lessened over time.

I just heard on ESPN that they probably will never know who was flying the plain, I guess it had dual controls so It could have been flown from either seat. I guess this plane was a pretty high performance plane for an inexperienced pilot such as lidle to be flying.
