Torre also is the "spiritual" leader of the team his role is to motivate & send out his players in the best frame of mind to win - he failed in this case

So Torre although ,not the one who physically lost the game was a contributor to the failure of the team because of the above factors & INACTIONS
Sure, he "contributed" but, let me quote disposablehero from ealrier in the thread:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Sheff 1-12 w/ 1 RBI, 0 BB, 4 K
    Cano 2-15 w/ 0 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K
    A-Rod 1-14 w/ 0 RBI, 0 BB, 4 K

    and then there's...

    Damon 4-17 w/ nothing after game 1
    Matsui 4-16 w/ 1 RBI, 0 BB, 2 K

but A-Rod sucks and needs to be traded!?!?!!

Posada and Jeter were the only guys who didnt suck in the series. you cant exactly expect to win, if you dont get more than 2 guys contributing on either side of the ball. the Tiggers pitching dominated the yankee lineup, especially Zumaya, Rogers, and Bonderman. they made them look like rookie leaguers!
Torre didn't make any of those players suck. The majority of the blame has got to go to the team itself. Whether A-Rod bats 4th or 8th, if he goes 1 for 14, it doesn't matter. The team played like horseshit, plain and simple. No manager can magically make a team win if 5 of their top hitters go 12 for 74.

My only question was why he didn't go with Wang in Game 4. Why save him for a Game 5 that may not happen? The Yankees (lack of) offense lost that series, but you got to do what you go to do when you're up against the wall. But that's all hindsight - the offense was a big goose-egg after Game 1.

until i see the official announcement, im filing this in my more-negative-hype-about-the-elephant-in-the-room file. a quick search of google lands me over 23k links to reports of his "being fired" after last season's playoffs. naive? i guess, maybe. *shrug*
this worked for me on the Torre hype, so i'll stick with it for the A-Rod hype

    my predictions:

Sheff is gone and the pitching staff gets overhauled (new #4-5 starters and 2-3 new middle relief arms come in). nothing major occurs on the offensive side of the game. the pitching overhaul is not enough and they have another disappointing post-season next year. Torre is then let go by way of non-renewal.

    write it down!

The only guys that didn't suck:

    Posada
    Jeter
    Wang
    Rivera

What do they have in common?

All drafted/signed by the Yankees. Coincidence?

[QUOTE=solitary;632226]Oh yes, A-Rod. You sucked. Not that I expected anything less from you. Thanks for sending the Yankees - and their $200 million AARP payroll - down the drain.

I got a trade:Bill Hall and Ben sheets for A-Rod. Milwaukee would be a great place for him. Not to much pressure, he'd be loved by the fans immediatly and if he got them in the playoffs we'd give him the keys to the city.

I hope they don't trade Hall.

Yeah, Hall is probably our most popular player but He needs to get better at taking pitches, improving the obp and stop striking out.

    Re: "I sucked"

So do a lot of players. He's a pretty good SS offensively as it is, however. If you could somehow add a power bat (preferably an OF one) without trading away Hall, you'd have a pretty good middle of the order. Heck, if they give Rickie Weeks titanium wrists, it might be a pretty good offense next year with Weeks and Hart giving way to Hall, Fielder, etc.

Yes true good points, hall's versatility also is a big plus. But I think he might end up getting moved to 3b. Assuming Hardy comes back healthy, and Weeks gets healthy and continues improving his defense, we should have a strong infield.

Interesting question. It's October 1, 2007 and the Yankees are in the playoffs yet again. Let's assume that A-Rod hasn't been traded and that they are playing the Tigers again.

Would you bet on A-Rod or Jeter to get more total bases in the playoffs?

A-Rod has a higher career slugging average. So the numbers would indicate that he's the one to bet on.
