    Talking "I sucked"

"You kind of get tired of giving the other team credit," Rodriguez said in a somber Yankees clubhouse. "At some point, you just have to look in the mirror and say, 'I sucked.'"

Just like last year, Rodriguez was AWOL when the Yankees needed him most, going 1-for-14 with no RBI as the Yankees were eliminated in four games by the Detroit Tigers, the second straight first-round exit for New York.
Oh yes, A-Rod. You sucked. Not that I expected anything less from you. Thanks for sending the Yankees - and their $200 million AARP payroll - down the drain.

If I were Derek Jeter, I would be going postal right now.

In a sense, I blame it on Mike Mussina. Baltimore always choked in the playoffs with him on the team and ever since he came to New York, they have no done squat in the postseason. He's the new curse of baseball. 80 years from now when the Yanks still haven't won a World Championship, it will be known as the Curse of the Moose. But A-Rod playing like he's 50 isn't helping either.

I can't wait to see the chaos ensue in NY this winter.
    lol

Those **** Yankees killed me in the office pool though. It's looking like I picked everyone else correctly (as long as the Cards actually win), but when you have the Yank's winning the series and they get eliminated by Detroit, that pretty much blows your chances out of the water.
    *sigh*

    Sheff 1-12 w/ 1 RBI, 0 BB, 4 K
    Cano 2-15 w/ 0 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K
    A-Rod 1-14 w/ 0 RBI, 0 BB, 4 K

    and then there's...

    Damon 4-17 w/ nothing after game 1
    Matsui 4-16 w/ 1 RBI, 0 BB, 2 K

but A-Rod sucks and needs to be traded!?!?!!

Posada and Jeter were the only guys who didnt suck in the series. you cant exactly expect to win, if you dont get more than 2 guys contributing on either side of the ball. the Tiggers pitching dominated the yankee lineup, especially Zumaya, Rogers, and Bonderman. they made them look like rookie leaguers!

lets not forget, the post season isnt about payroll. its about who gets lucky the most and money doesnt buy luck, just ask Jeffrey Loria. a wise man once told me, payroll is for the regular season marathon. luck is for the post season sprint.

    dola

i fully expect sheff to not get his option picked up, but otherwise, nothing major to occur, unless it involves starting pitching.

I must say that this latest Yankee goose-egg is especially fun given how Jayson Stark et al. pretty much gave them the trophy beforehand. I lost all respect for Stark after his disgusting PDA he called a "column".

The "scout", "executive", and "GM" quotes tell me that they are just as hot for the Yankees as Stark is. If you guys want to some time alone with the Yankees, it's cool - just leave me out of it.

this same exact article is posted on hundreds of "news" blogs and sports sites. all of it stems from the New York Daily news article, who used 'unnamed' sources, which we all know could be the locker room janitor, who drank too much and whispered in a hooker's ear, who ran to the media. or it could be the author just speculating and 'blaming' sources when it doesnt come to pass.

until i see the official announcement, im filing this in my more-negative-hype-about-the-elephant-in-the-room file. a quick search of google lands me over 23k links to reports of his "being fired" after last season's playoffs. naive? i guess, maybe. *shrug*

    BTW - for a response from a 'named' source - http://proxy.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2617224

Several Yankees players told MLB.com that they would be surprised to see Torre go.

"That's pretty drastic," outfielder Johnny Damon was quoted as saying by the Web site. "Joe has been awesome. You never know what's going to happen, but I think Joe should be safe. For all he's done and had to put up with, he's been incredible."

Cashman dismissed the idea of either Torre or Rodriguez leaving, telling MLB.com, "Why wouldn't they be coming back? That's not something that I'm even thinking about."
if it does come to be, is Piniella the right man for the job? he seems to be a pretty stong willed guy, who doesnt just do what the GM/Owner tells him to. Maybe they should go to Girardi?

Nothing like a good rumour to hide the facts that the Yankees got beat up...

If true - & that is a big if - Piniella will have the inside "track" but Cashman will push for a "manager's manager" who wont meddle in his already limited scope of activity.

I wouldnt like to be Tampa this off season - I wonder what the "Boss" will want for A-Rod now that he has confirmed his 'October blues'?

I HATE Stark. He's such a smug, condescending a$$, that he makes me change the channel when he makes the tube.

I'm 1-1 with A.L. predictions so far. I had Detroit taking the Yanks out (not just because I despise those f%$@#*& Yankee bas%@*&^). I thought that Minny would sweep Oakland right out the door though. I think the olde English D will be representing us (the A.L. fans) in the World Series this year.

    Re: "I sucked"

A-Rod sucks because he was willing to give up his primary position to play an unnatural one for a shot at a world series ring. The best shortstop in baseball is playing third base for the Yankees is an absolutely true statement. He was foolish to do what he did. Not for going to New York, but for moving over to third.
