I am watching the Mariners game and Felix Hernandez is pitching...
Against Milton Bradley, he threw a 96mph 2 seam fastball that dove down and away, then followed it with a 58mph changeup. This kid could be something.

We have King Felix listed in Mogul as: Fastball / Curve / Change / Slider
I don't see any info online that his fastball is a two-seamer, but I don't see anything to the contrary. Do you know if that's his primary fastball or if he throws both a 2-seamer and a 4-seamer?
It does appear at the least that I should make his change his 2nd pitch since it looks like he uses it more than his curve.

The 2 seamer was prominant tonight, just about every one with major late movement, but he did throwsome 4 seamers at the top of the zone. 2 seamer ran around 92 mph and 4 seamer about 95 on average. He threw the curve a lot, and it has monster break, got on A to buckle on strike 3. He did throw the Changeup more than curve, and it seemed to be mid 60s-low 70s most of the time, with movement. He threw some sliders, but they seem just to have a pitch in the mid to high 80s, that pitch did not seem to be anything but average. He was wild tonight, after missing 3 weeks (I think he only walked 24 last season), so perhaps not best night to judge. He kept the ball low, and that 2 seamer was death to lefties. If his 58mph change had been for a strike, Bradley would have sat down with a K, because he never even moved his bat.Originally Posted by Clay Dreslough
I'll try to keep an eye on his starts if you want me to.
Johjima looks to be excellent at calling games, arm is strong and accurate except tonight when let his arm drop when he threw it (yes, Oakland finally attempted a steal) and it went into the runner for an error. Still up in the air on his ability to block pitches though.
Betancort's arm and range seem to be just a bit inferior to Furcal's. He gets zip on every throw regardless of angle or direction of travel.
Wish I was watching the Cards instead though.![]()
I know he throws 2 seam/4 seam/change/slider/curve. Normally he has very good control but yesterday he struggled to find the strike zone mainly because he barely pitched in spring training due to shin splints.
Felix Hernandez (2005)
Pitches: 1. Fastball (96-97) 2. Curve (82-84) 3. Change (80-83)
Source: Seth Stohs, who charted Hernandez's second start (8/9/2005) and posted the results on his Website. According to Stohs, Hernandez threw 59 fastballs, 23 curveballs, and 12 change-ups (all of them after the first four innings), in the course of shutting out the Twins for eight innings.
Mariners pitching coach Brian Price: "He is a tremendous power pitcher, and yet he throws his off-speed pitches with as much accuracy as his fastball. He's also got a terrific slider, but we tell him not to use it -- simply because he just doesn't need it right now."
