Opinions on power numbers
Looking for opinions on effects of the smaller ballparks around MLB effecting increased HR totals. I know that steroids helped a lot, but the smaller parks must have some effect. I mean, how many homers would Ruth have hit in today's Yankee Stadium.
Please help me out. I am writing a paper for school and need some research.

Here are some sites that you may find useful.http://www.ballparkwatch.com/
http://www.ballparks.com/index.html http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/index.jsp
Also if you've got the download or CD version of this game you can play around with park dimensions from the past which you can get from the sites mentioned above.
Re: Opinions on power numbers
Thanks. I don't have the game on my computer. I actually did a search and this site was one of the responses.

If you're doinf research this is a great game to get. It lets you play around with so many different factors that you can create just about any condition if you want.
Re: Opinions on power numbers
Baseball Mogul (http://www.sportsmogul.com/baseballcd/index.htm) is definitely a great tool for exploring this concept. For example, you can start a new game in 1927, go into the Stadium Editor and shorten the Yankee Stadium fence dimensions. Then play the season and see how many home runs Ruth hits. There's even a tool (called the 'Simulator' on the Tools Menu) that lets you play the season over hundreds of times and check the results.
For scientific research, you should definitely check out the Society for American Baseball Research (http://www.sabr.org/).
If you send me your e-mail address (to cjd at sportsmogul dot com) I can post your question to the SABR e-mail list and see what answers you get in terms of good research in this area online.
Best,
Clay
