Would it be possible to add random suspensions to the game? I think that would be a cool thing to add...especially now with the proposed 50 game, 100 game, lifetime ban steroid suspensions from Selig.....I think steroid/drug, brawl, various offense suspensions would be a great addition.
This is one aspect of the game in which OOTP trumps Mogul. Not only can injuries occur in-game, but there are things like "Joe Blo out for a week, scratched cornea caused during bar brawl," etc. Also, in OOTP, it's possible to edit the "injuries," so you can make them unusual things like suspensions, the plague, dropsy, whooping cough, automobile accident, etc.
HAHAHAHA "the plague." Oh man, I might buy OOTP just for that feature. LOL. Barry Bonds is out for 3 months with "Avoiding the Media."

Yeah I just can't wait for Mogul to implement this ... I'd build a small team up to the top, we'd be in the World Series, and suddenly my best player would get a lifetime ban for betting on baseball and I'd have to go on a text-sim induced killing spree.
Bottom line: Mogul has had trouble getting injury rates to be realistic, can you imagine if half your players ended up suspended? It'd be anarchy, baby!
True....but they could add a setting option like with league revenue, salary and injury frequency. You could even add a player/pitcher rating in their scouting report as to their morals/ethics/whatever...lower rating could be someone to avoid..etc........This game is always trying to become as close to real-life as possible.....just an idea.Quote:

All the programmers would have to do to keep this sort of thing in check is make it very, very, very rare. Or, as OOTP does, make it rare and then, in addition, make each injury's frequency be open to editing by the player.
If I remember correctly, the OOTP files read something like this:
Broken arm: 1, 33, 54, 88
...where 1 means something like "can happen on the field, off the field," 33 means something like "relatively infrequent," 54 represents something like the least amount of time a player with this injury is on the bench, whereas 88 is the most, blah blah. You get the picture. It's in Notepad format, so if you want the injury to be "broken duodenem" or whatnot, you just rename it right there.
I don't think there needs to be too much more in the way of injuries beyond improving the current engine but the suspensions would be cool.
The suspension thing could be tied to the personality traits of the players, such as players with "violent" or "aggressive" attitudes would be more likely to get into brawls or what not. Suspensions in MLB aren't usually that long a couple games, maybe as much 10 days. Certainly shorter than alot of the injuries in BBM right now.

BBM is very simplistic in most respects, and it doesn't show any signs of getting deeper or more accurate.
When the developers just don't have the time or energy to do even fundamental things properly, asking for unnecessary fluff items really isn't a good idea. That wouldn't that be kewl if they... idea needs to be balanced by asking ourselves what could this do to the game if it isn't done right?, because odds are high that it won't be.
Hmmm......adding deeper minor league system....yearly draft.....historical rookies......arbitration.....sound's like it's getting deeper and more accurate every year. And I wouldn't call suspensions 'fluff'....they're as relevant as injuries even if they happen less often.Quote:

Minor league system? You mean those seven hitters and pitchers total that I have in AAA, six in AA, seven in A, and eight in R? The ones who perform based on random numbers verses nobody at all and often have better seasons at pro or AAA than in A or the rookie league, where they should dominate?

You obviously mostly play current seasons or you'd have a more clear idea of all that's only half implemented in this game, in addition to strategy, as gets discussed in this thread.
So, for playing "historic" seasons you have:

Minimum salary for minor leaguers in 1930 is twenty six thousand dollars. In 1930 Babe Ruth got paid one hundred thousand, and that was an astounding amount of money. Minor leagues? They were lucky to get lunch money.
Bench players that same year making from 316k to several million.
Ruth, of the record setting one hundred thousand dollar contract, makes over seventeen million. In 1930. He could have bought several small countries. Maybe even Germany.
Players making contract demands in a time when teams owned their @$$es outright. They played for what the team wanted to pay them or they were free to retire... if their contract was up.
Teams with five man pitching rotations plus and alt in a period when the fourth starter was the alt. And long man. Maybe the closer too, if one of the other starters didn't come in to close ;)
BBM is fine for what it is, but don't try to attribute much sense to it because it's not in there. Not in past seasons, not in present seasons, and god help future seasons if you don't have the rookie.ini file set low to put a muzzle on the players BBM generates.
So we need random suspensions why? Because the rest of the game is so real it would be the icing on the cake?
I'm not joking....yeah the financial engine is messed up for historic leagues...so be it. That's the kind of thing that's probably been sacrificed so far for the speed of the game and being able to sim a season in decent time. Smaller things get added sooner because they probably don't cause the game to lag....whatever. And yeah...suspensions would totally be the icing on the cake! :rolleyes:
