Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
the only "good" way to add those stats, would be under another tab like the splits one or game log one.... I also think the sabermetric stats.... like K/9, BB/9, WHIP that you can see on your roster page need to make it onto the player cards so if I am trading I don't have to go to the team's roster page to find these!
Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
One thing I really liked about MVP Baseball 05 in dynasty mode was the "goals" you had to meet to keep the owner happy. There were long-term goals that had to be completed over 3-5 year periods and short-term (current year) goals.
They are especially good incentive to take over a crappy team because the goals might only be something like:
-win 50% of your games over the next 3 years
-Have at least 1 player bat .300 this season
-Have a pitching staff ERA <5
-Have a player in the league's top-10 in stolen bases
et cetera
-Build a team with overall happiness/team chemistry of >=80
Whereas if you take over the Yankees the goals could be more like this:
-Win at least 65% of regular season games over next 3 years
-Win world series at least once in next 3 years
-Make playoffs each of next 3 years
-Have staff ERA <4.25
-Have 3 players with 25+ HRs at end of season.
Meeting all of your goals could give you more leeway in terms of payroll budget or other decision making while meeting none could get you fired. Anything in between would have some positive and some negative effects.
In fact, just thinking of it... it would be cool to have a "career" option where you HAVE to start by controlling a low-budget or crappy team like Tampa, KC, Milwaukee (no offense to those fans) and only once you "prove yourself" by meeting a decent amount of goals, then you are offered jobs with more "prestigous" teams & tougher goals.
Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
/\ You're right, man. MVP had some good stuff and it'd be nice to see some of those things in Mogul. (Usually we're saying we'd like to see stuff from Mogul in console games!) It'd be good if Mogul had different modes, like managers, GM, owner, etc.
Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
Similar things have been suggested before. The thing is, Mogul has never had a fictional owner; you are basically considered the owner. I'm not sure if I would be too happy if that changed.
...It could certainly be an optional addition to the game. It's not a bad idea, really.

Yeah it should definitely be optional, with the way the game is now always available. It'd be nice to just be manager and have to listen to the GM and owner. It'd be cool to be GM and have to communicate with the manager an owner, and it'd be cool to run it all as owner.

Number one for me would also be the Almanac, OOTP 2007 does an amazing job with this. Part of the fun of Sports Mogul would be being able to go back and study the history of your league thru the Almanac.

I've been working on this feature since this poll was first posted. We just didn't have it done for Mogul 2007. I expect to have it pretty complete for next year.

Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
Clay: Just how difficult would an "abstracted" 40 man roster/rule 5 draft be to implement?? I truly believe it would work wonders for play balnace between human and AI teams as well as giving the poored teams (in monetary terms) a chance to 'catch up".
If it was a "once per year" thing which was done in the fall after the free agent period, after the expansion draft (if any), after most teams sign available top notch free agents, and before the schoolboy draft. Just work it like an exapnsion draft with teams excluding their 40 man roster and their minor leaguers with less than five years of service. Teams drafting a player must keep him on their 40 man roster for a year and sign him to a ML contract.
It would seem that tweaking your expansion draft subroutines would create such a draft routine on a simplified basis.

Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
Suggestion for 2008: Incentive-laced contracts. the ability to pay less gauranteed money, in exchange for player incentives (they have to earn some of the money).

Also signing bonuses could be introduced (& signability issues for certain rookies,Free agents ) Not every one wants to play a perenial loser whilst others will take less cash to play on a WS caliber team....
Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
I'm pretty new to the game - think it's great - but I really enjoy modding so ...
What I would really love to see is an Input file called something like FreeAgents.csv along the lines of the 2006roster.csv file but where you could put in any year (or years) you wanted to for the player. These would be players from outside ML baseball - the old Negro Leagues, the Japanese leagues, Latin America, etc who would appear as draftable (and biddable) Free Agents in the years indicated for them in the file. This would be a great way to get historical players without ML records into the game at their correct dates and not just into 2006 rosters. They could even be fictional players (I hear there's this kid from Kansas named Clark Kent who can hit the ball a mile). :)
You could then also add stats for them in the Batting, Pitching, and Fielding csv files to give them a definite statistical profile. I'm not looking for the players or stats themselves, just a blank file that could be added to that would be read by the program.
Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
Full minor league teams (with their own schedules and box scores)
That is by far my #1 wish for 2008. To fully build a powerful dynasty that last many many years you need to have a solid farm system. If we could have full minor league teams and set their rosters, that'd be huge. Similar to what MVP 2005 has. I think that's the one area Mogul lacks a bit and could really improve. All these suggestions are great! I'm looking forward to 2008 already!
Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
More 2k8 suggestions for the next version:
1. Track players that were once yours but signed as free agents vs. other teams or were traded.
2. Have a screen that shows your record vs. every other team in the league
Re: Baseball Mogul 2007 Feature Poll
I would like to be able to renegotiate contracts prior to their last year under contract.
EG. I traded for a catcher, he had 2 years left on his deal, i want to sign him to a longer deal, but i cant even negotiate with him until he only has one year left on his current contract.
You could do a "Re-Negotiate" button where the negotiate button is when there is more than one year left on a players deal.
I would like to be able to sign players who have yet to file for arbitration to long term deals.
EG.
I have a player in AAA who is 89-98, i want to negotiate a long term contract for him prior to him being eligible for arbitration.
