Well after the disaster of BM 2014, probably best to wait and see if it's even worth the reduced price of $24. The football field reminds me of the Avalon Hill game "Football Strategy". It looked ok in the 80's but not for 2014.

Me too. I have bought the game the last three years and the year over year changes are way to few and far between. There are some issues that continue to plague the series and the "new" features each year don't significantly change the game for the way I play (only the current season forward). Hopefully some of those have been fixed but the interface is still the same after all these years, the commentary is stale with many of the same commentary errors that have plagued the series, and the stats have always been suspect. I really hope this is the year where I can play for a few seasons and enjoy the experience. I'll wait until I hear from others to see how this year's game holds up.
Not much to add, except ditto
Did anyone buy the game and is using it? There have been no posts on roster errors or anything! Did the game come out glitch free?
This feature addition interests me:
Accurate scheduling algorithm for all future seasons (2014 and beyond):
I did not enjoy the schedule errors when you went beyond the current season.
I think a lot of people have just given up on it and aren't even going to bother. It's the same thing every year with a new release of Football Mogul... It gets released with problems that need patched, a couple of patches are released that create new problems, and then the developer just abandons the game and we don't hear from him again until next year's version is released.
I would be very surprised if a demo gets released for this version.
Bad sign when the vocal few/only fans of the series aren't buying it and instead waiting to see if it's as bad as the past few iterations. Count me among y'all. Then again, I'm pretty sure he does offer a full money-back guarantee if you're disappointed? Can't really go wrong.
Yeah... http://www.sportsmogul.com/corp/guarantee.html
I'll make the leap later today.
Week 3 of PbP 2013 season as Redskins... I punt on my first drive and MATTHEW STAFFORD RETURNS IT FOR A TD. :sigh: UNGH. Even on my own team, it doesn't seem like it auto-selects my best returners, but Stafford? Really?
And clicking players in the game view stills brings up different players a good portion of the time.
Thanks for posting the bug for the quarterback! Well be sure to look into it. Let me know if you find any others, thank you!
I dont quite understand why my players are +/- 8 in ratings yet I spend #1 in scouting. Can someone explain this one?
I simulated 1 full season and it was still +/- 8 in both 2012 and 2014 edition. It went from 2 out to 8 out. I don't know what I am missing. My expenses are #1 for scouting. In Baseball Mogul after 1 year of being #1 the ratings are bang on.
I am using the 1983 Tampa Bay Buccaneers spending $45,000
Did you spend more money at all? During those years the game may base the scouting expenses off of a certain number, even though the league average might be lower. So essentially you could still be number 1 overall for scouting expenses, but that is because other NFL team's expenses for scouting may be really low and the year has a certain number that you need to reach for the attributes to be showing closer to +/-1.
I played during the 1983 season with the TB Bucs' and found that I was leading in scouting expenses at $45,000, but was only getting +/-5 ratings. After adding another $15,000 I began to see +/-1 ratings instead on the scouting reports. Basically, you just need to add more money. If you add more money and you don't see a change at all, then that is definitely a bug, but for right now the average that other computer teams spend may be a bit low. I'll look more into it, but if you find that you are spending way too much money during a certain year; certainly let me know!
Is there an option like in Baseball Mogul to water down the talent? My team is like all 90 rated players. If anything besides manually editing the draft talent one by one.
I think it's the drafted players' peak ratings that mostly end up 90+ after awhile. At least, it's been like that since I started playing FM a couple years ago.
After a few seasons of draftees, they start taking over and you'll see a lot of teams with most starters being rated in the 90s. Not sure how you would want to go about adjusting this.. whether by making some change to how the scale is graded or by a "watering down" of their peaks or advancement. I'd think the latter would be good, and perhaps even improve the sim results a bit, but it could end up being a juggling act for a couple patches until it gets tweaked back & forth into the sweet spot.
Interesting. After clicking Perfect Scouting, for each new 2013 season game the 1st round rookies have different ratings. I started a new league 3 times.
Should have a clear draft talent pool for today or tomorrow, I'm just working to get the numbers correct in order to water down the talent.
I doubt it needs to be a very large 'watering down' at all. Just enough to push the higher end of the draft talent's peak skill down a bit.
On the other hand, it didn't seem to be quite as much of an issue with linemen in the past. They probably just peak slower than "finesse" position players but I still don't recall them hitting the Overall 90+ range near as often as the rest. Nor QBs either. So I'm thinking it was either the positional skill rating advancement that was off for some positions, or the way the Overall rating was calculated that just favored Finesse positions more.
Try using this file. Let me know how this looks and I'll alter it from there. Thanks!
Instructions on how to install file:
(1) Startup FBM
(2) Go into options and select "Open Game Folder"
(3) Replace the "Draft Talent" text file within that folder with the new file.
I gave up on both baseball mogul and football mogul only because Clay refuses to add new features to either game and fix the problems that continue. Football mogul was never a good sim and the reason why is that Clay refuses to fix these nagging problems like adding expansion teams to the current league. Clay has no plans to fix these problems or the bugs in the game. The bugs in football mogul continue to get bigger and bigger all the time and he never fixes them. The patches are so terrible that I wouldn't buy this game for any money at all.
There are a few small things, these are in 2013 as well as 2014, You can only add one team for example Tampa Bay in 1976 but not both Tampa and Seattle, you have to add them one team per year. Second in the finance section the NFL titles is messed up, for example in 1970 Cincinnati has won 8 titles since its first year in 1968. And I like to hide the overall/peak numbers. Since FM does not have the hide peak button I edit it myself but the linebackers refuse to be edited. The linebackers are all 78/80 for some reason, its always two numbers apart. But its only the linebackers, last year it was the Quarterbacks but that was resolved. Nothing major but just stuff that bothers me.
