Football Mogul 2013
Football Mogul 2013 will be launched on August 29th, featuring updated pre-season rosters and ratings. This year's version includes:
- New stats, such as "YAC" (Yards After Catch) and "Receiving First Downs".
- New player ratings for skill players (RB/TE/WR) and defensive players.
- Hand-edited pass-blocking and rush-blocking ratings for over 300 offensive lineman.
- Over 2,100 active players (that's 24% more players than Madden).
- Every rookie from the 2012 draft.
- More than 60 top prospects projected to go in the *2013* draft.
- Accurate season schedules from 2003 through 2012.
OK, to qualify what I am going to write, I am going to buy the game and have volunteered to be a beta tester. So I want this game to succeed.
So while the above are good, I think I need to be fairly blunt and say all of the above are the minimum we should expect. Other than the first two, a yearly sports title these days needs to have current rosters, hand edited players, every player from the 2012 draft, and an accurate schedule. The new ratings are good if they actually create a more rich playing experience. And the new stats are fine though not essential.
I've posted the areas I think the game can be improved, many from an interface and editing standpoint. Others in the suggestion thread have made some posts about the AI, trade logic, and overall core gameplay. I hope that this is only a partial list of features because it really doesn't seem like to much of a change from 2011 let alone the roster update that was 2012. Again, rosters are nice but it is the game play features that will make this game more than a play it once affair.
With a release date of less than a month from today I am concerned that this game is just another roster update. I look at the effort made to be innovative with Baseball Mogul and am a little disappointed that FBM seems like an afterthought based upon the two very different feature lists. I realize there are tons more folks buying BBM but it really is a "if you build it they will come" scenario. If more people buy it, more resources go to support it. But if few resources support a game, why would people buy it?
I'll buy it because I respect what Clay as a one man show is trying to do and I won't ask for a refund even if I am underwhelmed. But I really hope some consideration of things in the suggestion thread were looked at. Keeping my fingers crossed and trying to stay optimistic. Love BBM and really want to love FBM too!

They badly need a way to more easily edit a playbook. There should be pre-made plays that you can customize your own playbook with... and making them sortable by who is the number 1 option and 2 option on the play would also make things handy. It'd be nice to be able to use a lot 2 or 3 TE sets and feature them if you want to play with a team like the Patriots. I know you can go through and edit this and make a playbook to your specifications, but the game should come with a few hundred pre-made plays already set up. The teams themselves could easily be given more realistic playbooks.
Off season awards/Yearly awards should be a must have! They should name an MVP and have the little news articles like Baseball Mogul has. I think that's such a cool feature to have, even if it is often a little off on details. I'd like to know who the top rookie performers are as well, maybe even show some award races. Madden is super successful and has those features, and Football Mogul should have them, too!
How about for contracts adding performance incentives? Maybe offer off-season trainings you can purchase for players to increase some of their ratings or their peaks?
They have to allow you to sort players by their 40 times if that's going to be as big of determiner of speed as it has been in the past. Adding a couple of more ratings wouldn't hurt, maybe an I.Q. rating for one.
Just some ideas. It's been a let down a lot of times to get Football Mogul, but I've bought it still (of course it was free recently)... Just has so much potential.

As a beta tester we are still collating the player pics and playtesting, and I'm sure Clay wants to fine tune a few things before release. So far things look mighty impressive. I blind tested the beta on my older brother, who BTW, is NOT big on PC football games, but is now a convert. The wait will be worth it, I think.

In beta testing/playing I have noticed the kickers and punters are not in their correct slots, and fictious guys(?) assuming their starter role. Hopefully Clay can get this hammered out.

Actually, I don't see this as a bad thing. I have played football mogul for the past 3 years and there are a couple of things I have observed.
1. Baseball Mogul is Clay's bread and butter so it gets about 80% of the attention and everything else gets the other 20%
2. Patches for FM are few and far between and what they do fix are relatively small things. You do not get new features in patches.
I say those things not to be negative but to simply state things as I see them.
With that in mind, a few extra days to make sure things work as well as possible "out of the box" may actually be a blessing in disguise. Now if we push into October, I may change my mind about all of that, of course.

That's understandable. It was nice to get Football Mogul 2012 for free. Love to see what will the improvements be for the 2013 version?

Yeah, see, I'm less annoyed that there have delays as I am that Clay has gone COMPLETELY quiet on the day it is supposed to come out. If it's going to be delayed again, come out and say that. Don't just ignore the question when people ask it.

In my little bit of exploration with my beloved Buffalo Bills, I've discovered some serious inaccuracies in the roster. Steve Johnson and Kyle Williams, two of their best players are not even in the game. Also, the contracts are out of whack. Mario Williams just signed a huge long-term deal there, but for some reason he is on a 1-year contract and must be re-signed at the end of one season if you start a franchise in 2012. I'm sure other teams have similar issues. Hopefully these will be fixed soon?

im very much enjoying the game and im a huge nfl fan...i just took my detroit lions to another 10-6 season in 2012....3 teams from the nfc north made the playoffs....which i could see really happening

The one thing I am up at arms about is the 2008 draft class bug. It was in the last game and it's in this game as well.
If you head into the 2008 season the draft class is made up people. If you start in 2008 the rookies of that year aren't there.

Does the game results seem to be tighter in this one compared to 2012? There was an unusually high amount of INTs in that one, and a lot of sacks allowed by the Center for each team.
And the draft classes having a dearth of linemen in the draft, and those having notably lower stats on average than other positions (for the randomly created future ones)? I suppose these universally lower lineman stats could have an effect on the INT rate or something. But there were also too many WRs with high stats in the drafts too.
General gameplay fixing, anyway.. improved?

The Rams, my team, have serious roster issues. Just off of the top of my head, they have the kicker as a punter, only 5 wr's and one of them got cut. And Jason Smith was traded 2 weeks ago. Can't we get the rosters as of 9/6 for $25?

I'd suppose/hope the rosters get updated in future game updates?
Also.. a question: Has anyone ever put up decent rushing yards by setting the "Pass/Run Ratio" drop-down, on the Offense Page, to a positive percentage of Run plays? It seems like the higher I set it towards Passing, the more & better Rushes I get.
If I want to force a better rushing game, with my stud RB, then I have to put a little +Pass on. *shrug* Must I set it to +50% or something before rushing becomes somewhat reliable? How have you guys set up a decent rushing offense via the game settings?

A little disapointing that the roster is incorrect.
What are the improvements? The screen shots show no change.
