Option to edit ratings rather than predicted stats

When I edit a player, my goal is usually to obtain a certain rating. Most common is for me to edit a player's defense at secondary positions -- allowing a LF to be less than awful at right or center, a SS to play elswehere in the infield, etc. I'd like to be able to just set a rating and let the game generate predicted stats, rather than the current hit-or-miss system of editing the stats, checking the ratings, etc. I really prefer computer programs to do most of the work. Really, I'd like to be able to just set a rating for a position ("79" at 2B, etc.) and have the program generate everything else in line with his current ratings.

I can see that...but not all 79s are created equal. One might be because of a better glove, the other because of a better arm, for example (I am thinking more of the outfield in this case)

I wouldn't mind this. You could edit someone and give them an 84 contact, 71 power, 67 speed, 93 eye and it'll develop a player hitting .278, 9 HR, .360 OBP with 3 steals

I'm with Lex. Last week during the All-Star break I calculated all of the Braves' paces to enter them into the game to get the best version of what they are this year. Problems arose when I got to Andrelton Simmons. All he's done is mash the ball, but doing it out of the 8th spot he could not get a green light to use his great speed. I ended up with what looked like a perennial .330/.410/.470 player who may steal double-digits. I would have loved to use my own discretion here on EVERY stat. After all, that wasn't a small task that I was doing. Also couldn't have Uggla performing at a 76 rate. Give to him, take from Simmons, give to Hanson, take from Beachy. Hanson is about as much as a 82 as Beachy is a 99. I do know every last attribute the team has and I would have applied them fairly...had the option been available, of course.

Right, but that's what the program can figure out -- I'm not talking about creating a player from scratch, I'm saying the guy is a "79" in RF, let me set him to something similar in LF and/or CF. If he's got a good arm or range or low error rate, let that carry over to the other outfield positions. As it is, I've seen players showing as "79" in the skills tab at all three OF positions, but when I put the guy in center and check the Defense dialog his Arm rating drops from like 77 to 53. If you look in the editor, he has maybe a few games predicted in center and zero assists. So, I manually add games and putouts and assists and errors, check the ratings, adjust, repeat -- how tedious, especially if you want to do multiple players. I'm not saying replace the option to edit the predicted stats, just give you another, quicker option.
