in my pay league, the last place team is dealing Pujols & Cliff Lee to another team in the league for Jason Kipnis & Michael Morse. Try not to jump just on the big names and write it without looking. Give it an honest look and let me know your thoughts on whether or not this is a BS deal.
It's got nothing to do with the big names, it's just a trade of two of the best players in baseball with unassailable track records, sent in exchange for a decent but unspectacular rookie 2B and an oft-injured late bloomer. BS isn't strong enough to describe that trade.
alright, it seemed so outlandish to me I thought maybe there's just something i'm missing. Middle infielders are golden right now as there are so few that provide decent power numbers and Kipnis is having a great season. If Pujols hit in May how he did in April I could see how someone might be dumb enough to think he needed to cash in on his history and that he wasn't going to come out of it. But Pujols was solid in May and is turning it around.
The trade is collusive, it's very obvious and infuriating tbh. I tried through much of the season to get Pujols from him and he wouldn't budge, says he's not moving him. The guys finally doing good but his team sucks so he pawns him off for a hand job to a buddy.
veto it or challenge it or drop from the league, its BS.
Kipnis may be unproven but he's having a really good year and people are high on him - the combo of average, power and speed is nice. Morse should be worthless - just came back from injury and doesn't look good at all. Saw him strikeout and otherwise act goofy yesterday in Fenway. Sure he has a breakout season in the books, but being older and coming back from injury, its not guaranteed.
On the other hand, Pujols has not been himself, and Lee is winless through over 2 months of the season...and also missed time due to injury. I could see dealing one of them for Kipnis/Morse - maybe - but not both, given their track records its just silly.
It's certainly not Lee's fault he's winless. He's due to pick up some Ws based purely on the fact that he's pitching extremely well. He's a K-an-inning guy with a sub-3 ERA and a WHIP around 1.
I wouldn't do either of them for Kipnis and Morse, much less both. Dickay, your league is getting screwed. Get your commish to nix this deal yesterday.
Come on, AOW, I thought you were above this. Lee is winless because he's gotten 3.16 runs of support. Dude pitched a 10 inning shutout and didn't get the win. Lee's been his usual awesome self. Pujols and Lee are both individually worth far more than Kipnis/Morse together.
And I will bet you real American money he ISN'T the top-ranked 2B in fantasy baseball by the end of the season.
What ratings are you using, anyway? CBS sports has him second to Brandon Phillips, but that doesn't make a whole heckuva a lot of sense since Brandon Phillips has been awful.
http://games.espn.go.com/flb/playerraterOf course it all depends on the categories of your league but the point I was making is that Kipnis has been a fantasy stud this year & you guys were dismissing him like he was garbage. I could care less about his real life value. Fantasy is totally different. I would not be surprised if he was the number 1 2b at the end of the year.
Edit: The rankings you listed seem to be based on projections for the next week. If you click on were it says rest of year it his Kipnis as number 1. Thats projections not actual stats though. The one I am talking about are based on how the players have performed so far this year.
/hey now, I know how much Lee is worth, sure. I was just saying, in this season of Lincy/JJ crashing down to earth, some idiot may see Lee's season stats and decide to trade low with him being winless.
I think wins are mostly stupid, stat-wise, but it is a standard 5x5 category, and its one Lee hasn't happened to help out in. And of course its partially stupid because he is limited to helping on one side of the equation only (altho he could hit more homers, I suppose).
i agree people undervalue Kipnis, which is why I posted this trade for discussion. It's not so much undervaluing kipnis either, it's the fact that there's such a dearth of production from 2B that makes him even more valuable. 1B I feel is much much much easier to find some production.
I agree with the comments though that Morse is basically a non-value. You can find similar talents in FA in most leagues. He's got talent, but coming off an injury he's not worth much right now. Lee has been stellar even w/o the wins. Pujols & Lee IMO is way too much to give up for Kipnis, but Kipnis is worth much more than people are giving him credit for.
