White Sox end road trip with 9-2 record
New York - The Chicago White Sox (18-8) found out a lot about themselves in the last two weeks. They had to play two playoff teams from last season and a playoff hopeful this season and came away with a blistering 9-2 record after those 11 games.
Gavin Floyd (4-0 2.40) out-dueled C.C. Sabathia (3-1 4.38) to remain unbeaten. Floyd notched 7 and 2/3 innings, giving up 6 hits and 2 ER. Sox #6 hitter, Alexei Ramirez, hit his 5th home run of the season and the White Sox came away with a 4-2 victory over the Yankees for the 3rd straight game.
The Sox head home for 6 straight games, starting with 4 against the Baltimore Orioles (10-15) before hosting the defending Central champs Minnesota Twins (16-10) in a 2 game set.
Jake Peavy (1-0 3.18) will make his 3rd and final start of April, facing off against Brian Matusz (1-3 4.67)
"I just hope we can keep the momentum going, and not over-look the Orioles before we welcome the Twins. They've changed their ballclub a lot this year, and Buck Showalter is a great manager. They're a sleeping offensive juggernaut," commented Peavy.

Peavy wins behind Dunn/Konerko HRs
Chicago - The White Sox (19-8) defeated the Orioles (10-16) by a score of 4-2 today behind a strong outing by Jake Peavy (2-0 3.12). Peavy pitched 6 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5 on 93 pitches.
"I felt great all game. It's encouraging to feel no pain, I could have stayed out there longer. Let's build on this success and move forward. It's going to be a great year for me, I think," Peavy gloated.
Sox #3 and #4 hitters each hit a home run in support of Peavy. Dunn's was his 11th of the year, while Konerko's was his 9th.
Luke Scott and Randy Winn each had solo shots off of Peavy, but the Orioles offense couldn't muster anything past the 6th inning with Jesse Crain, Chris Sale and Matt Thornton pitching 3 scoreless innings.

Sox finish April hot; 20-8, 4 game lead
Chicago - With his 2nd HR of the season, White Sox (20-8) 2B Gordon Beckham ended the game with a walk-off in the bottom of the 9th.
Edwin Jackson (0-3 5.80) allowed 4 ER in 5 and 2/3 innings as he left the game in a 4-4 tie. He has allowed at least 3 ER in all 6 of his starts this season. Reliever Sergio Santos (1-1 8.38) pitched 3 innings of perfect relief to get the win.
"Sergio seems to have turned corner," remarked manager Ozzie Guillen. "Unfortunately, Edwin still hasn't pitched well at all this season. It's frustrating, I don't know how much longer we trust in him. Short leash from here."

Sox run win steak to 6
Chicago - The White Sox (21-8) won again today after breaking a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 8th to win 4-3 over the Orioles (10-17) for their 6th straight win.
Mark Buehrle (4-1 4.21) got the no decision pitching 6 innings of 2 run ball, even though he left the game with a 3-2 lead. Reliever Jesse Crain (2-1 5.14) gave up a run in the top of the 7th to make it 3-3 before UTIL Brent Lillibridge drove in the game winning run on a ground out.
DH Adam Dunn and 1B Paul Konerko continue to mash the ball, hitting their 12th and 10th HRs, respectively.
The Sox look to close out the sweep of the Orioles before the Twins come to town for a two game set by sending John Danks to the hill against Brad Bergesen.

Brad Bergesen shuts out White Sox
Chicago - Brad Bergesen (2-3 6.75) was great all afternoon, allowing only 5 White Sox (21-9) batter to reach base, going 9 innings for his first career complete game shutout. 1B Derrek Lee, 3B Mark Reynolds and CF Adam Jones all homered for the Orioles (11-17) as they dominated the White Sox, 7-0
John Danks (4-2 2.80) allowd 4 runs, 2 earned over 6 innings for the loss. Tony Pena and Sergio Santos each allowed runs in the defeat in relief of Danks.
The Sox offense failed to get anything going, with the low-light coming from Juan Pierre who was 0-4 and grounded into 2 double plays.
Up next is a 2 game set against division rival and mortal enemy Minnesota Twins (17-12). The White Sox will send Gavin Floyd to the mound against Brian Duensing.

Chicago - Minnesota's offense got off to a quick start, piling 5 runs on the Sox in the first 4 innings, cruising to a 5-1 win over the White Sox (21-10). Gavin Floyd (4-1 3.25) lasted only 3+ innings while taking his first loss of the season. The bright spot for the White Sox was that their bullpen held the Twins (18-12) scoreless over the final 18 outs.
Lefty Brian Duensing (3-2 3.28) pitched 7 innings allowed just 1 run over 100 pitches. Michael Cuddyer and Alexi Cassila each had 2 RBI for the Twins.
Alex Rios was caught stealing for the 5th time this season, against only 3 successful attempts.
"We give him green light, even against someone like Joe Mauer. He is confident player, just needs to be smarter this time," said Ozzie Guillen.
The White Sox stranded 8 runners in the loss, their second straight. They will send Jake Peavy to the mound tomorrow as he attempts to snap the losing skid and even the season series against the Twins.

Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.
Jake Peavy to miss at least 3 months
Jake Peavy tore his latissimus dorsi muscle last year, reinjures it today
Chicago - Jake Peavy (2-0 3.12) woke up this morning and immediately knew something was wrong. A pounding pain in his surgically repaired shoulder prompted the 2007 Cy Young winner to immediately call the White Sox (21-10) training staff.
Within an hour Peavy was getting x-rays taken at team's facilities and he did not receive good news.
"It looks like the muscle ripped partially again in his shoulder. We hope he can avoid surgery, but he can't throw for at least 10 weeks," lamented GM Kenny Williams. "We had such high hopes for him this season as a player, now I'm just worried about Jake the person. It has to be very trying on him."
Williams said that Peavy will be unavailable for comment as he is resting at home. Lucas Harrell (1-1 1.69 AAA) was called up and put on the first flight out of Charlotte and will start tonight against the Twins in replace of Peavy.

Jim Thome hits 600th career HR against Peavy-less Sox
Jim Thome launches #600 against his former club
Chicago - Jim Thome became the 8th person in Major League history to hit 600 home runs with a 3rd inning blast. The U.S. Cellular fans, cheering for Thome, were treated to a tip of the hat after the former Sox slugger came out of dugout after the homer.
Thome joins Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Ken Griffey Jr, Alex Rodriguez and Sammy Sosa as the only people to accomplish the feat in the history of the game. Thome needs 10 more homers to pass Sosa for 7th place on the all-time list.
"It's quite the career accomplishment, but the big thing was we got the win today and closed the gap between us and the Sox," said Thome.
The Minnesota Twins (19-12) scored early and often against recently called-up Lucas Harrell (0-1 18.00). The 25 year old rookie gave up 5 runs, 4 earned in just 2 innings of work. Jake Peavy was slated to start the game, but earlier in the day the Sox (21-11) found out he will miss at least 12 weeks after reinjuring his shoulder that ended his season in 2010.
"It sucks, man. He's so big for us, it kind of deflated all of us when we heard the news. We were like zombies out there," said DH Adam Dunn, who hit his 13th HR of the season in the 8-1 loss.
Nick Blackburn (3-1 2.16) pitched 7 innings of 1 run ball for the Twins and Thome's HR was the 11th of the season.
"I remember in early in 2009 when all the talk in Chicago was 'will he/won't he come' in reference to Peavy accepting the trade to go there. I was in Los Angeles by the time he got there, but every one of us in that clubhouse just hoped he would come. He's a tremendous talent, you never wish injuries on any player regardless of the jersey they are wearing. That being said, I'm glad we didn't have to face him today," said Thome.

Sox head west dealing with adversity
Chicago - The White Sox are enjoying the morning off before boarding a plane destined for Seattle. The Sox open up against the Mariners (22-9) who are tied with the Red Sox (22-9) for the best record in the A.L. GM Kenny Williams has been searching hard for a replacement for injured starter Jake Peavy, who will likely be out until mid-August at the earliest.
"It's tricky, we know that Harrell and Humber aren't ready to step in for 3 months, but then again we're hesitant with giving up our young talent. We have to do something though," said Williams. "We have some things in the works, a few phone calls out there. We will have something figured out sooner rather than later."
The White Sox have lost their last 3 games, after winning 6 in a row. The Sox have the Mariners, Angels (12-19) and the A's (12-19) on the road over the next 9 games before heading back home.
Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.
Edwin Jackson traded to Texas
Edwin Jackson will now pitch for his 6th Major League team, the Texas Rangers
Chicago - Just as reports came out that Kenny Williams was looking to improve the starting rotation while Jake Peavy was on the DL, the White Sox GM sent another pitcher in his rotation out.
Edwin Jackson (0-3 5.40) was sent to the Texas Rangers (17-15, 2nd AL West) along with backup catcher Donny Lucy and pitching prospect Kyle Bellamy in exchange for high-ceiling SP Derek Holland (2-1 4.76) and journeyman SP Dave Bush (2-2 5.90).
"The call started out about Dave Bush, to be honest. I had been high on Holland for quite some time, and when I mentioned his name, that's when things got interesting," said Williams.
Jackson is 48-54 with a 4.66 career ERA with 5 teams over 8 seasons. His best season came in 2009 with Detroit posting a 13-9 record with a 3.62 ERA. Traded to Arizona before the 2010 season for Max Scherzer, he pitched a perfect game for the Diamondbacks before being traded to the White Sox mid-season last year. It was widely rumored that the Sox never had any plans on keeping Jackson, after trying to use him as a pawn to acquire Adam Dunn before the deadline. No such deal happened.
Holland is a 24 year old left-hander with an 13-18 record posting a 5.42 ERA in parts of 3 seasons. Rated as the #2 prospect in the Rangers organization in 2009, the pitcher is best known for his game 4 start in the ALCS against the Yankees in 2010. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 0 runs in a crucial victory helping the Rangers ultimately reach the World Series for the first time in team history.
Bush is 58-70 with a career 4.69 ERA and is slated by the #5 starter until Peavy is healthy, then projects to be a long reliever. Signed by the Rangers over the off-season, he had recently been sent to AAA after proving to be ineffective.
Re: 2011 Chicago White Sox: Playing for keeps and a city.
Buehrle and Sale shut out Mariners
Seattle - The Seattle Mariners (23-10) couldn't get anyone past second base against Mark Buehrle (5-1 3.60). Buehrle pitched well for 8 innings, allowing 5 hits and no runs. 1-2-3 innings were a common thing for Buehrle as the White Sox (22-11) won 4-0.
The Sox started off scoring in the 2nd inning. Paul Konerko single to start the inning, after Andre Ethier and Alexei Ramirez caused outs, Ramon Castro walked ahead of a Gordon Beckham RBI double. With Castro on 3rd and Beckham on 2nd, Brent Morel had a weak grounder to 3rd to end the inning.
The White Sox would add runs in 3rd, 7th and 9th to win for the first time in 4 tries.

Sox dethrone King Felix, Danks pitches CG
Felix Hernandez lasted only 3.2 innings in his first loss of the season
Seattle - Jack Cust hit a solo homer in the 7th inning off John Danks (5-2 2.50), to break a streak of 15 scoreless innings for the Mariners (23-11) against the Sox (23-11). It wasn't enough.
The White Sox started the scoring early against Felix Hernandez (4-1 3.42) with 3 runs in the first inning. Hernandez retired Juan Pierre before allowing singles to both Alex Rios and Adam Dunn. Paul Konerko then popped out and Andre Ethier drew the 2 out walk. Alexei Ramirez, last year's silver slugger at shortstop, then drove a 2-0 pitch into the gap, clearing the bases and hitting a triple as the White Sox took a 3-0 lead they would never give up.
Hernandez lasted only 3 and 2/3 innings as the White Sox added on 2 more runs in the 4th inning, en route to a 5-1 win.
Chicago starter John Danks, was efficient only allowing 5 mean to reach base all game, giving up 1 ER over the full 9 innings. It was his 2nd CG of the season, and 4th of his career.
