Oh yeah?

Yes, there is an asterisk next to Ellsbury. This vote is not final. If Boston does not make the postseason, there is no sense in handing the MVP to a someone on the team that just staged the greatest September choke in the history of the sport. It would be like handing out Best Actor or Actress awards to anyone in Gigli.
Also, I don't quite get why you would choose to use a A-Rod as an example of a player that the voters wouldn't vote for...considering, you know, he won the MVP while playing for a last place team....

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
I think it's fair to use that as a tie-breaker in a race such as this--where there are like 5 extremely close candidates--but the logic still doesn't make any sense.
Basically, people are going to pin a "not clutch" tag on Ellsbury for hitting 373/417/682/1.099 in September.

For a recent example see David Wright, 2007.

What about him? I have Pujols edging him out that year:
Pujols: 8.3 rWAR, 8.4 fWAR, 8.35 AVG, 4.77 WPA (Win Probability Added)
Wright: 7.8 rWAR, 8.9 fWAR, 8.35 AVG, 4.15 WPA
WAR is way too close to call, so I went to WPA and it's Pujols by a nose for me.

Reyes out of the game with a .337 average.
New York is officially on Braun Watch

It's going to be very hard for Braun to overtake Reyes. Braun will need at least a 3 for 4 day.
If Braun goes 2 for 2 he'll have 189 hits in 561 at bats = .33690
If Braun goes 3 for 4 he'll have 190 hits in 565 at bats = .33748
But, if Braun goes 3 for 5 he'll have 190 hits in 566 at bats = .33688
So, if Braun has more than 5 at bats, he'll need 4 hits.

Guess not.
Anyway, I wasn't exaggerating, as I showed, but referring to something dumb printed earlier that day.

It would be funny if Braun went 3 for 2 or whatever, but do we really still care about something like that? I kind of would prefer an OBP award instead.

Even as a Brewers fan, I'm indifferent about Braun winning the batting average title. His finishing with a .336 or .337 won't affect my view of the season at all

I'm glad you liked that. Me n my best bud were talking baseball at a party and someone comes up to us like he's all into baseball and said did you guys watch that White Sox game? Frank Thomas went 3 for 2 he is so awesome. Naturally everytime we see him we ask if Frank Thomas went 3 for 2 lately.
Yeah I'm an *******.

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
So, with the Braves on the cusp of not making the playoffs, are they still happy to have got rid of the "headache" of Yunel Escobar?
One has to think that they'd have the WC wrapped up if they'd have kept Yunel instead of trading him for an older downgrade at SS
Edit: Nevermind. Still being told I'm dumb for saying the Escobar for Gonzalez trade is bad for the Braves

And Evan Longoria sends the Rays to the playoffs with a home run just over the left field wall and just inside the foul pole.
This has been an absolutely unreal night.

You said it! Wow... poor Red Sox fans. Not being in the playoffs since 2009 now?!? Talk about suffering!
Nice to see the Rays snuck in. Looks like I'll be rooting for the Yankees again this postseason. GO YANKEES!

Harold Reynolds is verbally fellating Tony LaRussa right now for some ungodly reason. According to him, TLR Is why STL won.
