He definitely doesn't evaluate his own team properly. No doubt about that.
As far as building a team, I at least have to give him credit for improving in that area. His first three years on the job were awful b/c he simply committed way too much to old, mediocre players..but the past couple years, he has truly committed to youth and has avoided big mistakes while simply allowing the young players to finally get a chance. He's still got a lot to prove, but you at least have to acknowledge that he's been better lately than he used to be. We'll see if that holds up, or if he goes back to being an idiot.
Surprise story of the year
Some of my fellow Brewers fans had been living in la la land thinking he was going to resign. There has always been almost 0% chance of him resigning. Although I had a wet dream last night were the Brewers signed CC Sabathia & then resigned Fielder. Ahh was a good night...........

The Most "Moneyball" players during Beanes tenure. Fun read. Takes me back to when we didn't suck and had somewhat of a fanbase.
I'd rather be eliminated in May than go through what Boston's going through. Gonna be so funny when Tampa sweeps. :3
That's asking a lot of the Rays when you compare the remaining schedules of the two teams:
TB > Red Sux 3, Yankee$ 7, Blue Jays 3
BOS > Rays 3, OriLOLs 7, Yankee$ 3
I'd really, really love the Rays to get the Wild Card, but they're in pretty tough. On the other hand the OriLOLs are playing other teams really tough lately, but still they are the OriLOLs.
Phillies Clinch NL East!

Brett Lawrie is having a great start to his career, but Rivera welcomes him to the league during his 601st save. (I just liked the picture.)
I can't wait to buy Rays playoff tickets.
JV is just filthy again. I could honestly vote him for MVP with a clear conscience.
Because a 2 game deficit with 10 games to go behind a team that has a rotation 3/5ths full of guys that get hammered on a nightly basis is nearly impossible to overcome, and because a young team that has won two of the past three division titles and has one of the top farm systems in the game with a host of near-MLB ready talent certainly has little chance of contending next year.
No, because it's outweighed by strength of schedule remaining, and an expected regression to the mean of Boston playing better in 2012. (I'm actually rooting for the Rays, because I'm a Tiger fan and I'd love to see the Rays sweep the Yanks and have the Tigers take the #1 seed for the AL playoffs, but I think it's unlikely)
I def just bought my 2011 Rays Playoff tickets.
the bosux about to get steve irwin'd
Looks like Boston is finally pissed off and taking it out on the Orilols.
Nah, we just know that when Lackey starts, we better score 18 runs if we want to win. :)
Ellsbury ITP homer was a good time, the Orioles looked lost going after some of those balls
Good job LQ1Z34, putting an entirely out-of-context quote in your signature to try and make me look stupid. You're cool.
Can't wait to see lincecum/kershaw matchup tonight, it's gonna be fantastic.
well, you certainly did feel he was overrated...as did I. I admit to being wrong on Ells. While I thought he'd be OK, I never envisioned him being an allstar or anything close to this years performance and I did certainly feel that many Sox fans overrated him based upon a couple quality short months.
i don't know why LQ would quote that...it was something MANY thought...and I don't know why you'd be upset with it and feel it makes you "look stupid". Unless you're trying to find a way to claim you didn't feel he was overrated and not admit to being wrong.
Putting that quote in his signature without the context (the context being: the statement was made before the 2011 season in regards to a list of the top 100 players) is misleading...doubly so, now that I notice, given that he's linked the quote to an unrelated post, not the actual post he's quoting, which at least would provide the correct context for anybody that clicked through.

Not only is Jackson in a Sox uniform, but he's hitting his way into the Sawx record books. Exclamation point justified.Quote:
Jacoby Ellsbury led off the seventh with an inside-the-park home run. Six batters later, Conor Jackson slugged a grand slam. It marked the first time in team annals that both feats had been accomplished in one inning.
+1 OD sucks
Conor Jackson in Boston: .143/.235/.357 OPS+ of 58
!!!!
What a game in St. Louis tonight
Tony doesn't know how to manage a bullpen, still.
He did a great job with the pinch hitters though.
Dee Gordon steals an ass load of bases.
Just think if he actually got on base sometimes
Kenley Jansen has K'd 23 of the last 33 batters that he's faced.
In over 166 innings pitched by Brandon Morrow his defense has turned zero double plays!! Easily a major league record. (although I have no idea how long that stat has been counted) Next closest guy had like 96 IP. Incredible!
depends.....do you feel he's still overrated? he's definetly outperformed what I thought he'd do, but then again Red Sox fans are talking about him as an MVP and putting him in the Carl Yastrzemski class already. So while his performance has improved so has the perception of him incredibly. One can make an argument that he's still overrated seeing as he's had now one good full season. Well, very good....but lets see him duplicate this next year and the year after, and the year after before we talk about Carl Yastrzemski.
Hate to be that guy, but the record part will come if he fails to record a GDP over the rest of the season as it will result in him having not gotten a GDP from wire to wire. There are two guys ahead of him in the "consecutive innings without a GDP streak" category, and they're both in the HoF.
In 1975 Don Sutton (BB-Ref Game Logs page here), managed to go 189.1 IP without having a double play turned behind him, but he wound up with 3 GDP on the season. The streak started when he got Johnny Bench to end the 1st inning with a DP on April 15th, and didn't end until he got Larvell Blanks to end the game with a DP on August 5th. So April 15th CG with a 1st inning DP = 8 innings + 23 straight starts totalling 173.0 IP + DP to end a game in the ninth, which came after 8.1 IP = 189.1 IP.
Fergie Jenkins 182.1 IP streak stretched over the 1970 and 1971 seasons. On July 21, 1970, after getting Gil Garrido to hit into a double play to give him 2 outs in the 7th, Jenkins completed the game = 2.1 IP. Over his final 17 G and 16 GS of 1970, totalling 136.2 IP the streak continued, and it continued further over his first five starts and 39.0 IP in 1971. Finally in his sixth start on May 1st, 1971 against the Phillies, he got Willie Montanez to hit into a double play to end the 5th. This time he only went 1.0 IP before getting another double play, as he got Denny Doyle to give him the first 2 outs of the 7th. The totals: 2.1 IP + 136.2 IP + 39.0 IP + 4.1 IP = 182.1 IP.
The last time Morrow got a GDP was August 28, 2010 when he got Miguel Cabrera to hit into one to give him two outs in the sixth inning. He then struck out Brennan Boesch and was replaced by Jason Frasor in the 7th inning, so that's 0.1 IP without a GDP. His next start was on September 3rd against the Yankees and he only lasted 3.0 IP. After that, the Jays decided he'd reached his innings limit and decided to shut him down for the year. He has 166.1 IP so far this year, so that's 0.1 IP + 3.0 IP + 166.1 IP = 169.2 IP. Go Brandon! We're rooting for ya!
Does anyone want to buy a 2011 Rays playoff ticket? I have 278 of them. And Robby Cano's tie breaking 2 run double really blows it for me.
