Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
Who are these Nationals, and what has happened to the lovable losers that normally where those unis? If I could figure out how to post the video of Ramos' game winning 3-run moon shot, I would insert it here...
FanGraphs had the win probability at .5 % after the Zimmerman GiDP in the bottom of the ninth!
Wow, what a comeback!

Also wierd sequence in the 8th when Sam Fuld was announced as the relief pitcher, came on and threw some warm up pitches then Maddon slowly walked to the mound and pulled him. This must of been to buy time for another pitcher to get warmed up.
In my RTTS on the PS3, I didn't get credit for a SB.

fili, thanks for the assist, but I was thinking more along the lines of just the Ramos homer with no other video content and sans commercials.

You shoulda been. In my fantasy league Upton was credited with a SB & it was in the box score. I remember in Hart's 3 HR game he was almost picked off, caught in a rundown but somehow made it to 2nd base when the other team botched it & he got a SB as well.

Rule 3.05(b):
If the pitcher is replaced, the substitute pitcher shall pitch to the batter then at bat, or any substitute batter, until such batter is put out or reaches first base, or until the offensive team is put out, unless the substitute pitcher sustains injury or illness which, in the umpire-in-chief’s judgment, incapacitates him for further play as a pitcher.

Decided not to start Beachy coming back from an injury. So far 3.2 IP and 8 Ks. FML.

Yeah same here, I had him, dropped him when Wright got hurt cause I only have one DL space, seen his was starting today decided not to pick him up, my opponent did and now he's kicking my ass! On the plus side Uggla does have a HR and 2 RBI's for me.

You better believe some hirsute Twins fan shaved Joe Mauer’s name and number into his back hair. With the price of a customized jersey these days, can you really blame him? I don’t know whether to be disgusted, impressed, both or neither. Since it involves shaved back hair, usually I’d go with disgusted, but I hate to admit that it looks pretty fine for a homemade custom jersey.
Pretty fine indeed.
Remember guys, when life gives you no money for custom jerseys, use some creativity and shave one in your back. This goes for you too, ladies.

thoroughly enjoyed the leyland rant / ejection yesterday. very comical. horrific umpiring.

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
Not sure if I should start Cliff Lee or not versus the Red Sox....
Normally I wouldn't...but my experiences with Verlander and Cahill taught me to never, ever bench an ace. And its not at Fenway, but in Philly...so the green monster won't play a part.
Opinions?

I think you're crazy for there being any situation where you would normally not start a bonafide ace.

Funny thing was, the umps decided on the right call, but since when do umps overturn calls just because the opposing manager complains? Hilarious all around.

Dumb.
Leyland is a hundred and whatever years old. Act like an adult.

The original call was absolutely brutal. It was not even remotely close. They got it right in the end. Case closed. Love ya Jimmy, but go sit down and shut up. I'm sure he went and apologized to Rapuano afterwards though because while he looked pretty childish last night, in the overall he's a class act.

PFFFFT. Get out. If they had called it out originally and then changed it to safe, the first thing you would've done is get on here and write a page long diatribe about it. It's clownshoes umpiring. How does the 1st base ump miss it so bad at first, and since when do managers get the call overruled? Just because they ended up with the right call doesn't make it any less clownshoes.

Depends on if they got the call right in the end or not. I'm a big proponent of "robot umps". F*** the human element. Get the f***ing call right.

B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-bbbbbuuuttt Human Element and stuff. When John Jay dropped the pop up in left field and it was called out. THAT. WAS. AWESOME.
Umpires should decide the game based on their mistakes not players!!!!!1111
