Francisco Liriano has a no-hitter through 6 2/3 innings.
There, see how long it lasts now that I mentioned it!
Edit: I initially said "perfect game" and then Luke Hughes made an error.

I hate him. Every time I've had him sitting, he's done this. Every time I start him, he sucks.

Does anybody know if there's a list of current players who have spent the longest in the minor leagues without appearing in the Major Leagues? If not, anybody know who the current "leader" is? I was wondering that recently.

Thanks TLR for walking Pudge to get to our best hitter in the lineup (Nix)! The Cards may win the next 2 in DC, but atleast we got 1 to match our longest win streak of the season.

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
Quick, someone tell me if Micheal Morse is legit (or this just a hot streak) !!
Our first 5 game win streak this season on the heels of Ryan Zimmerman coming off of the DL. Ryan says his return wouldn't make the team score 10 every night but so far, its been close.
:) :)

This is a hot streak.
That doesn't mean that Morse isn't legit though nor does it mean that he is.
Morse is hard to peg because he only has 900ish PA's and those are spread out over 7 years. There is some evidence that he is Jose Bautista-ing it at least a little, in that he's reinvented himself since his early years.
When he first came up he was a light hitting middle infielder. Since then he's begun to hit more fly balls and has increased his home runs per fly ball:
2005: 30% fly ball rate, 6% HR/FB
2010-2011: 38% fly ball rate, 19% HR/FB
Hitting more fly balls and more home runs per fly ball is a quick way to hit a lot more home runs.
Quote:
Bautista
Year - FB%, HR/FB
2008 – 38.8%, 13.8%
2009 – 42.1%, 12.3%
2010 – 53.6%, 21.3%
The good news for Morse, batted ball rates (FB% etc) stabilize pretty quickly, so this is probably the type of hitter that Morse is. The bad news is that HR/FB% takes a lot longer to stabilize, so this might just be a hot streak. His K rate is higher than you'd like and his BB rate is lower. He's got a .350 BABIP right now while his batted ball rates suggest he's more of a .270 BABIP kinda guy. Using that BABIP and his current XBH ratios I come up with a .263/.317/.489 line as opposed to the .303/.347/.519 line he has.
My guess, he comes back down to earth a little, but the Nats are still happier with him than they would be with Ryan Langerhans

lolololololololol. Morse, no doubt. You need bad defensive OFs who are getting by on a .357 BABIP.

the rest of the AL should just quit now with the promotion of the great one.
on another note...its nice to see SEA finally looking at a little offense at the expense of defense.

Should stabilize the price of beer at that bar that's selling it for whatever Figgins' batting average happens to be on the day in question.

Paging Jeffy: This one's for you: "cousin" (you did say he's a distant cousin of yours right?) Tom "The Terminator" Henke on a local radio station on the occasion of his induction into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. He'll be joined by Allan Simpson (Canadian founder/editor of Baseball America: if he's not in Cooperstown, he damn well should be), and George "Dandy" Wood who had a decent, but not standout MLB career in the 19th century. Local baseball writer/hack Bob Elliott will be awarded the Jack Graney Award (our version of the J.G. Taylor Spink Award, which one day will also be bestowed upon Mr. Elliott no doubt).

Offense puts bums in the seats. Defense wins championships. Unfortunately offense as putrescent as Seattle's has been wins...a protected 1st round pick?

Zimmerman hasn't done alot since his return from the DL, but his return has ignited the Nats and we are finally out of the cellar in the division (for now)

Kelsi Culpepper and Taylor Campione, a same-sex couple from Minneapolis, are filing a complaint with the Minnesota Department of Human Rights after a Target Field security guard rebuked them for kissing at a Twins-Angels game last month. City Pages reported:
Culpepper stopped to use the restroom, giving Campione a quick kiss on the lips as she departed.
Immediately after, a middle-aged, mustached security guard in a Twins hat walked toward her, shaking his head.
"I saw you kissing that girl, you can't do that," the security guard said.
"I can kiss whoever I want to," Campione replied.
"Well, we don't play grab ass here," the guard answered.
By the women's account, the guard then told them, "Here in the stadium, we adhere to the Ten Commandments."
Lesbianism is not mentioned in Exodus 20. The game was, however, played on a Friday and lasted until 11:31 p.m., more than two and a half hours after sunset, in violation of the Fourth Commandment. (For people with alternative Sabbaths, the series also included a game that began by daylight on Saturday and another one played on Sunday.) Leading off for the Twins was Denard Span, who once hit his own mother with a foul ball (Fifth Commandment) and who earlier this year said, "Thank God we didn't get no-hit today" (Third).
Among the decorations at Target Field is a 750-pound bronze statue (Second Commandment) of adulterer (Seventh) Kirby Puckett.

Very awesome.
Tom's mom married my dad's brother in like the 60's or something. I believe Tom's step-father (my uncle) has since passed (there are a lot of uncles on that side of the family and they are difficult to keep straight).
We are distant cousins, not blood, but we certainly know each other. In the summer of 95 when he was with the Cardinals I got to see all the behind scenes moments of that season. I hooked onto Tom for as many home games as my mother and he would let me. I have some really awesome gifts from him as well (I should take some pictures sometime). I followed Tom Pagnozzi to the bathroom lol, Tony Fossas isn't as funny as he thinks he is, and Scott Cooper's kids and I still talk :) But I was in love with Ozzie then, overly in love with him, and I'm sure I annoyed the crap out of him.
Tom is incredibly friendly and giving. If I recall correctly he retired because his daughter's condition (DS I think). He certainly looked like he had plenty left in the tank. Personally, I wanted him to remain a Cardinal for as long as he could.
My dad grew up in Taos, MO (a very small town to begin with), which is also where Tom grew up. Awesome guy, happy for him getting into the hall of fame, even if it is the Canadian one :p

Hey, what's not to love about Ozzie? Must've been fun to be behind the scenes with your heroes (before you grew up and cynicism took over ;) ) Yeah, Tom's daughter Amanda was born with Down's Syndrome in 1986, and he's been very active in the cause since retirement. Aside from the devastating fastball/split finger combo, just an awesome, humble dude who never forgot where he came from. Don't you be dissing the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. ;) :p I've got to visit it someday.

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
Ozzie was awesome. I met him at the Hall of Fame in 2000 when I was covering the HOF game ... he was very, very cool. Interviewd him for about 10 minutes, then shut my tape recorder off and shot the breeze with him for another 15 minutes or so. Just a genuinely nice man.
