That's what I thought, but, that's not true. Davey Johnson was 30 when he had his 43 home run season (and only season with more than 18 home runs) and that was just one guy I thought of off the top of my head.

Baseball reference lied to me. :( http://www.baseball-reference.com/blog/archives/11082
edit: actually no they didn't, this is assuming if Bautista sustains what he is doing for multiple years. See only a handful did it for more than one season which was what I was saying.

3 to RF actually. All three in Target Field. 1 in the final four games last year, and 2 this weekend.
fWAR since Opening Day 2010:
1. Jose Bautista 10.9
2. Joey Votto 10.1
3. Matt Holliday 9.4
4. Adrian Beltre 8.6
5. Josh Hamilton 8.4
6. Albert Pujols 8.0
7. Evan Longoria 7.9
8. Ryan Zimmerman 7.8
9. Troy Tulowitzki 7.8
10. Miguel Cabrera 7.7
Also:
Bautista (Sep 5, 2009 - Oct 4, 2009): .280/.360/.660/1.020; .380 ISOP; 115 PA, 100 AB, 10 HR: 11.50 PA/HR, 10.00 AB/HR; 25 K, 11 BB, 2.27 K/BB
Bautista (Sep 5, 2009 - May 15, 2011): .278/.398/.659/1.057; .381 ISOP; 948 PA, 783 AB, 80 HR: 11.85 PA/HR, 9.79 AB/HR; 160 K, 146 BB, 1.10 K/BB
That is some frickin' remarkable consistency. He's taken that nice little September/October run in 2009 and extended almost to the point where you've almost gotta say this must be the new Jose. I'd prefer to see 1500 PA, but the dude's almost reached 1000 now, and he's the Sep/Oct '09 guy with amazing pitch recognition that continues to improve. The change kicked in in the middle of a season. Prior to Sep 5th, he was hitting .216/.345/.301/.646 with 3 HR in 289 PA on the year. Are PEDs possible? Of course, they're possible with everyone. But that kind of a turn around mid-season suggests to me that the waiver claim of Alex Rios by the White Sox which led to everyday playing time plus the adjustments that he'd been working on with Murphy and Cito since 2008 came together all at once to me. As HGM mentions he's doing it in a much reduced offensive era, so either he's found a magical substance that nobody else knows about, which I highly doubt because baseball players tend to share info or he's put together everything that he's learned, not only since he's been here, but since he was drafted.

948 PA (now 953) not good enough for ya? Sheesh! Tough taskmaster.

How did the Red Sox come back?
I've been so exhausted from dance lessons and all that that I fell asleep when it was 6-0 Orioles.
I wake up and the Red Sox win, 8-7? WTF?

FANTASY QUESTION OF THE DAY:
Do you start Francisco Liriano tonight against the Mariners? He's been putrid this season, even with that no-hitter thrown in. I'm leaning towards benching him but this is the Mariners.....i'm embarrassed to admit i may bench him against them. If i'm not going to start him against the Mariners, why do I have him on my team??
frustrating. thoughts on the start?
-
Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
I would start him against the Mariners. If you don't - indeed, why bother having him. He's going against King Felix, so his likelihood of getting the win goes down - but he should be at least serviceable.
Ichiro and Smoak are the only threats of note in the Ms lineup, correct? With Bradley gone anyway.

Mike Gonzalez, Jeremy Accardo, Jim Johnson, and Kevin Gregg were absolutely fugly. Awful, awful, awful. Puke! On the other hand great comeback by the Sawx.

I have the same dilemma, Do I start Jimenez against the Giants? I probably will... his only "quality" start so far this season was against SF and I would hate to miss having him in the lineup for his coming out party (assuming he will have one this year).

Giddiness becomes the order of the day when Gonzalez tells manager Terry Francona that he plans to swing like Ichiro on his fourth at-bat against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia, who had handled him with ease to that point, then hits a three-run home run into the right-field seats.
“He amazes me,’’ Francona said after Gonzalez hit his fifh home run in his last four games and seventh in his last 11 to turn a close game into a 6-0 romp over the Yankees. “When you say you’re going to do it and then you do it, that’s pretty impressive.’’
Here’s how the conversation in the dugout went, according to Francona.
“He said he was going to have a little bit of Ichiro in him, a little bit of a leap,’’ Francona said. ‘’He said, ‘Do you have a problem with that?’ I said, ‘Not if you get a hit.’ ’’

Wait...What? Edwin Encarnacion's a major leaguer? Bwahahahahahahah! Buh-rutal 2nd and 3rd innings tonight. 5 errors for the Jays in the game. They could've given Encarnacion four errors, but he only got two, so the team could've had seven. Ugh! Aaargh! Blaaargh! Very, very, very ugly!

Strasburg to pitch on mound soon | nationals.com: News
Quote:
Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg was in Washington on Tuesday to see an orthopedist. It was a routine checkup on his right elbow, which was found to be sound.
The next step is to pitch off the mound, and general manager Mike Rizzo said that will happen "any day." The last time Strasburg threw off the mound was the day he hurt his right elbow against the Phillies last August. He had Tommy John surgery the next month.
Strasburg is hoping that that he can pitch in a big league game by September, though there is no official timetable for his return.
I miss that guy

I miss him too, but if he were pitching, he would also be suffering from the just incredible lack of any offensive output from the lineup! He could throw multiple complete game shutouts and still would probably have a losing W-L record. It beginning to be too much for me to take....
