I guess I should just never, ever sit Verlander or Cahill. I figured with Halladay or Lee on most of my pitching staffs, I can rest a secondary ace with all the innings limits anyway - maybe avoid the pummeling by a good offense. Instead, I just look stupid, every time.
So forget it, all 4 or 5 aces are always in there, every day from here on out.
All Cahill & Verlander owners should trade them ASAP before the AOW jinx takes full effect

Fred Lewis might have taken worse routes...And he played LF, FFS. Dewayne Wise...Sure why not? At least he'll catch the goddamned ball.

if it makes you feel better AOW, i sat Liriano for his no hitter and started Lackey as he got pummelled. Got Liriano in there today vs. DET and am sitting Brett Myers who's been terrible and is playing Cincy. I know how this will go already.

John McDonald has more home runs than anyone else currently playing the infield for the Jays (David Cooper, Aaron Hill and Edwin Encarnacion).

Sweet swing and we're going to need him with Lind's back putting him out of commission.

Really pissing me off on how every single hitter I drafted is in a season long slump. Corey Hart, Justin Morneau, Buster Posey, Carlos Gonzalez.
Do any of you guys think any of these players will rebound?

No. All of those players are completely finished as productive players.

None of those guys are going to rebound. I will also add that holy crap you suck. Might have been best for your crapshack to have been blown away in the dust storm.

His K/9 rate is way up so far this year. From 2007-2010 it was 4.54. So far this year, it's 7.62. His walks are up too. From 2007-2010: 2.39. So far this year: 3.27. I highly doubt the Ks are sustainable. Then again I highly doubted Jose Bautista was going to reprise his role as Babe Ruth this year, so what do I know? (It's early on that one too) On the other hand his BABIP is up to .300, from the .280 it was at in those four years. Strand rate and ground ball rate are almost exactly the same, but he's turned a lot of fly balls (34.3% '07-'10; 27.6% this year) into line drives (18.3% '07-'10; 25.2% this year). That can't continue if he wants to remain a solid back end of the rotation option.
He was significantly injured in 2009 (TJ) and 2010 (torn hip labrum), and because of these injuries he's radically changed what percentage of the time he throws what pitches. From 2007-2010, he went with the cutter 38.8% of the time; This year, only 15.6%, despite the fact it's easily been his most effective pitch so far in 2011. His four seamer averages somewhere between 89 and 90 mph and he's throwing it a helluva lot more this year (26.8% from '07-'10; 50.1% this year). So basically he's replaced the cutter with a four seamer. Historically the four seamer's been his least effective pitch, so the fact that he's throwing it half the time is a bit worrisome and perhaps is part of the reason for the big increase in LD%. He's dropped the number of curveballs he throws, which is good because that hasn't historically been a great pitch for him either. He seems to have replaced those with a mix of sliders and changeups, which is also good because historically those have been his two most effective pitches.
I would say it's too early to say that his reported demise has been greatly exaggerated because it's still too early in the Jesse Litsch 2.0 era. He's a much different pitcher than he was pre-TJ and we'll have to see if he can continue to be effective. The good thing is he doesn't have to be anything more than a #4 starter (#5 if/when Cecil returns) and I think he can handle that. What I hope is that we get a good season out of him this year and move him for a prospect or two a la Marcum. Obviously Marcum's a much more accomplished pitcher but both of them are in the "brains over stuff" category when it comes to pitching. I hate to say that because my cousin's (kenny1234) little son adores Jesse Litsch ever since Jesse autographed his little ball glove just prior to going out for TJ (we always chuckle [not within earshot] that the little guy cursed poor Jesse - somehow I think it had more to do with throwing too many cutters ;) ).
Litsch will always be underrated because his stuff is not great, but he's always had a great head for pitching ever since his great debut in '07 (yeah it was only the Orioles, and yeah they had some guys on the team who recognized him from his days as a batboy with the Rays, but 8.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R in a major league debut is nothing to sneeze at). He's also underestimated as an athlete because he doesn't look like an athlete, but he's always fielded his position very well and held runners well which can only help him out. This market (and possibly all baseball markets - I wouldn't know) has always mocked the players that "don't look like athletes" and called them fat and stuff (David Wells anyone?), and every time he takes the mound you'll get the idiots in various threads on various blogs saying "Oh crap, we're gonna need 10 runs tonight if we wanna win this one". It's garbage. He's a decent #4 or #5 option and doesn't need to be a top of the rotation guy because that's not what the Jays are asking of him.

Strikeout rate stabilizes around 150 batters faced. It's likely that Litsch's strikeout ability has improved.

If he can handle being a #4 starter that's all I meant. He wasn't an ace pre-TJ.

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
that isn't real is it?
Quote:
A frustrated Verlander, who threw his second career no-hitter last Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays, said his parents Richard and Kathy had asked if he would be receiving some kind of promotion for his accomplishment, if this meant he would finally be allowed to hit during the games, if he would have received a promotion had he thrown a perfect game instead, why he “slacks off” and throws some pitches slower than others, and whether or not he needed any money.
“Their eyes light up at the mention of the New York Yankees. My mom will say something about how Dad just read in an article that the Yankees want to improve their pitching, and then she’ll ask if that’s something I could apply for,” Verlander said. “Over and over she says how it can’t hurt to call them. And that the next time we play the Yankees, I should make my presence known by giving them my business card, a cover letter, and a resumé.”

It depends on your definition of "real". :)
Interestingly enough, at one time things actually were kind of like that in the American League. If you played well with one of the perinnial bottom dwellers like the Browns or the A's, you had a good chance of being traded to one of the better teams, like the Yankees. On the other hand, play badly with one of the good teams, and there was a good chance that instead of being sent to the minors, you'd get traded to the Senators.

Nothing out of the ordinary. I absolutely hate that show. All the "journalists" on that show do is grandstand. Woody Paige is functionally retarded and the rest of them aren't much better.
