Don't know that I can really fault Showalter for that decision, or lack thereof. Is a 3-run lead technically a save situation, yeah. But I'd probably save my best relief pitcher if I'm sitting on a 3-run lead too.

honestly i like uehara over Gregg in that sitch anyway...but the Os bullpen doesn't have a go-to guy to get out of that situation, which is tghe problem.

So far the Red Sox have scored 3 runs on a 290 foot home run and Greg Gibson being a terrible ump. When it rains it pours.

Don't hate. I'm sure that sometimes clean-up hitter Adam Kennedy could hit it 290 feet, down hill, with the wind blowing out.

He's not hitting cleanup...but I'm sure Adam Kennedy and his 127 OPS+ could outhit James Loney and the rest of the non Kemp/Ethier Dodgers.

Mets making a comeback in the 9th

they also got a gift on a 2B out in the 8th, the SS came way off the bag. Umps felt bad with them down 10.

Frank McCourt is on Sportscenter talking about the MLB takeover...holy ****. He looks and sounds absolutely crazed and insane. It's unsettling. He's like Dennis Hopper from Speed. How could anyone be around him for 10 minutes and still want to do business with him?

Maybe the Luxury Tax Sawx can avoid the sweep tonight against the lowly 'last place' Mariners without more help from the umps tonight.

Small chance that the Royals aren't a huge pile of sh*t this year.

Anyone know how I can find out what the league average for obp by leadoff hitters was last year? Or what it has been in recent years?

I'd say that's actually a big chance.

Eh IDK...our rotation blows pretty bad. Offense looks like it could approach average...maybe.

Right, which means that there's a big chance the Royals are a huge pile of **** this year.

The fact the Rockies are winning is a bit mind boggling to me. The offense has overall been terrible.

I don't think they're going to be a pile of ****, whether huge and steaming or small and desiccated, for much longer though. That farm system is ridiculously deep and talented and is clearly the class of MLB at the moment.

In the small sample size that is 2011 so far, leadoff hitters have a .327 OBP. Blech!!!

Better than average, .325

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
1/6th of the season is over, Ryan Zimmerman is probably out until after the ASG, the offense is offensive and our SS can't catch a cold if someone sneezed directly in his nose!
But other than that it has been a tolerable year for baseball....
At least we do have 2 rookies that are currently in the running for ROY!

Actually the MLB average OBP is currently .320. Ugh.
Last time players hitting in the leadoff spot posted an OBP of below .330, prior to 2010 and April, 2011 was...1982. Whoa!

My bad, my original post was meant to say there was a small chance the Royals AREN'T a huge pile of sh*t this year. Hence, the confusion.
I had them at 70 wins probably before the year. Maybe I'll bump it up to 75-76 wins if Gordon and Butler have good years.

Do you understand the concept of buying low, and selling high? [/kidding]
He's too talented to not break out at some point, and when he broke out, lady luck was probably going to be on his side. In all seriousness, I'm not sure he's broken out yet. That 6 BB, 2 K at the end of his pitching line is just fugly.

i agree on his talent and that he has to break out. thats why i've kept him in my rotation until last night when i decided i needed to see something from him since he's been so bad.
i still think i'll bench him for his next start too. trading him is an option, but i don't think the value i'll get in return is worth the risk of giving up on liriano just yet.
