Anibal Sanchez no hits through 8 vs. Colorado

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
I'm not sure I could ever be a Rangers fan, even if I lived in Texas. Watching baseball in this ballpark would just put me to sleep..every game I watch is just home run derby. It's just stupid watching these pop flys land ten rows deep.

So I'm not really sure why the Brewers made this deal now. They already had Braun locked in for the next 4 seasons and they are paying him what can reasonably be expected to be his market value for the 5 seasons after that. They could have waited until the previous deal expired and likely signed Braun to a similar contract with less risk if Braun fails to perform or is injured.

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
This A's team offensively is as bad as they were in 2008, if not worse because they guys we are supposed to count on at least are staying healthy unlike in 2008 when it was a walking trauma unit. ****ing sucks to let this rotation go to waste.

Baustista with 2 homers today with his total now at 7!! Too bad we lost :(
Do you guys think Bautista can win the home run title again?

I think he CAN, but I really don't see him hitting 54 again.

"On Pace" for 57

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
Bautista has gotten on base in 10 straight plate appearances.
He also has 7 homers but just 11 RBI's.
If people don't start getting on base for him we might as well just bat him leadoff in order to get him to the plate more often.
I don't see how Bautista managed to get even one good pitch to hit today as he was protected by Adam Lind and Jose Molina while facing David Price.
I think I see Bautista improving his batting average and on base percentage over last year as pitchers pitch around him more, but Bautista will lose a big of the power. I'd happily take an increase in OBP for a slight decrease in power though.

Wish there were White Sox fans around so I could clown them.

I'd say those are all fair assessments. Lind is useless against lefties and Molina isn't worth jack nuts at the plate.

Is an example where a player hit great with no "protection" really the example to be sarcastic about protection not existing?

Yawn...stretch....

Quote:
The results lead us to not only reject the protection hypothesis, but also we find evidence that good on-deck hitters actually harm the hit and power probabilities of the current batter. This is consistent with the effort hypothesis. However, the magnitude of the spillover is tiny and for all practical purposes the effect is zero. Even very good (bad) hitters have only a very small impact on the batters who precede them.
“But what about [insert possible excluded variable]?” Well, we controlled for a heck of lot of potential outside influences: platoon effects of the batter and the on-deck batter, the base/out configuration, the quality of the pitcher, the score differential, the inning of the game, and the park in which the game was played. Given the number of observations we are convinced that protection is a myth; it doesn’t exist.

Dodgers up in the tenth on a Ethier home run.
Who's going to pitch the bottom of the ninth?
Broxton? Jansen? Guerrier? Padilla?
-
Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
The question now is, when will Ethier begin his slump/injury ride? May 1st? May 9th? June 2nd?

Can I switch teams? I'll pick the Pirates.
6 year deal means they continue to play budgety baseball in a dilapidated stadium. I might be dead in 6 years at least let me root for a team with a nice ballpark.

Re: * * Official 2011 MLB Discussion Thread * *
I also heard the stadium name deal wasn't for much $ either

How bad does that make McCourt look? The Mets are poorly managed, lost a ton of money in a huge financial fraud, and have a floundering ball club with an inflexible roster, and THE DODGERS ARE IN WORSE SHAPE.
