Cahill was awesome today.
True dat. So was Romero, until the brain cramp on the bunt by Pennington in the 8th. He had LaRoche dead to rights at 3rd base, but for some reason threw to 1st to get Pennington instead. Then Arencibia inexplicably called for Frasor's split changeup and rather than getting down to block the ball in the dirt where it usually goes, came up out of his crouch way too early on the strikeout, allowing the tying run to score and Crisp to reach 1st on the wild pitch. Frasor then struck out Daric Barton for what should've been the final out of the inning. Tough day for J.P. Arencibia. He's been very impressive defensively on the whole so far though. Great day for my surnamesake Conor Jackson: play of the game on the diving catch in RF and an RBI single to score Crisp from third (after Crisp stole 2nd and 3rd off JPA) with what turned out to be the game winning run. Still say the Athletics have 1 too many outfielders on the roster, but Crisp, Jackson, and Willingham all had very good series. This series could've been a sweep for either team, in the battle of the two youngest rotations in the game. Too bad the Jays couldn't pull off the sweep on the 34th anniversary of their first game on a snowy day in April, 1977. That day probably sealed the building of the SkyDome (now Rogers Centre: or the Cable Box as the locals call it), as all the dignitary politicians sat there freezing their asses off on metal seats (except the cheap seats, which were plastic, but the high-fallutin' types can't sit with the unwashed masses damn it).
Missed today's game, but I watched last night's, AJ. Nice to see Snider come up big.
He threw out Ryan Sweeney at 3B today. Torey Lovullo has done outstanding work with him in the outfield, particularly on his throwing, and it won't be long before the rest of the league gets the memo re: said improvement. In the meantime, get ready to watch some more victims on the basepaths. He's starting to look like a RF playing LF, while Juan Rivera looks like a DH playing RF. Oh well, Bautista will be back on Friday, and although I think he's a better fit at 3B given the current personnel, having two strong arms at the corner outfield positions isn't a bad thing, and EE is definitely not as bad defensively at 3B as he's looked so far. Get ready President. We're comin' for ya. Actually, I'm betting the Jays will lay a gigantic turd on this road trip because it's a f***ing brutal road trip criss-crossing North America. Angels, then Mariners, then Red Sox (just in time for them to not suck anymore). Hello Air Miles! F***.
Esmil just made the Pirates his *****.
Also, so did Tulo
Pirates just beat the Cardinals 2 out of 3 jerkface. Go lose to Toronto.
Also, I might cry when this mlb.tv 30 days thing runs out.
Good thing the Marlins announcers started talking about a JJ no hitter in the third. Two innings later...Nationals tie it.
I got the MLB extra innings package for the first time this year. A week into the season and I already can't imagine my life without it.
Vladdy is owning tonight.
....And we won a much needed game against a powerful pitcher. I have been pretty down so far this year in regards to the Nats (and mostly their bullpen) but they thankfully pulled one out against the hated Fish! And the 'pen looked good doing it!
Only 6 games into the season and much of my hopes for a better year have been completely wiped out, thanks in large part to the manager and the bullpen. First "Giggleman" pulls his effective starters entirely too early to rely on his bullpen.... Yeah, I get it Riggs...last year the pen looked good and the starters were dismal (especially in April), but that was last year! Lets let the starters pitch until they start to lose command (when they have shown to have it for most of the game), then go to the pen. How 'bout that, huh?
