Not sure it's all Geren's fault. The current A's 25 man roster has an infield of Barton, Ellis, Kouzmanoff, and Pennington, with Andy LaRoche as the only backup infielder that I can see. That makes this a problem of roster construction, which is more Billy Beane's department than Geren's. Choosing to go with a guy who's limited to DH, or suffer Vlad Guerrero-like OF repercussions, as well as 5 OF, and obviously 2 catchers, along with the (currently) standard 12-man pitching staff is where the problem lies. That only allows for one backup IF, which leaves Andy LaRoche to cover SS if Pennington gets a boo-boo. This one's on Beane.

I see the fans disguised as empty seats have returned after the weekend series with the Twins pulled in 110,000+. Unfortunately, it feels quite familiar.

Chris Young, 2 hits in one inning!
The pitcher!
Really rough night for Hamels.

Well I genuinely dislike Geren about as much as prez hates Brian Fuentes. Seriously though, our normal backup SS/2B Adam Rosales is on the 60 day DL which would explain it. Also, it still is on Beane to not have someone to fill in until Rosales can return to his bench role.

It is funny though, he's 2 for 2, I guess he wins the starting job. :p
