13.02 Rookie of the Year bias against pitchers

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before, multiple times, but I believe that the AI for the Rookie of the Year is heavily biased AGAINST pitchers.

I haven't done much testing yet with 2011, but the single season simulator ran 100 times for the 2010 season came up with a pitcher winning the ROTY 5 times. That's 200 awards handed out - 100 in each league - and only 5 times did it go to a pitcher (and it was Wade Davis each time).

Now, as far as I understand it, pitchers do win less than position players in real life, and I think that's right - there's 8 other positions to contend with, so of course position players should win the majority of the time. And, furthermore, this is just a resimming of a single year, so it's plausible that the rookie pitcher class just sucks...but it still seems off that there was only 5 instances of a pitcher winning the award.... I'd think Stephen Strasburg would've won at least once!

The threads I linked to above have further and more detailed examples of pitchers losing out to clearly inferior position players. This sim just adds more evidence to the case.

740 season sim. 35 pitchers win the ROTY - Wade Davis 32 times, Jon Niese twice, Stephen Strasburg once and Scott Elbert once.

So, 2.3% of the time, a pitcher won the RotY. Seems terribly low. In real life, for the history of the award, pitchers have won about 20-25% of the time.

Yes, again, this is just one season so the percentage shouldn't match up exactly to real life, because the list of candidates change every year in real life, so I will run multiyear tests eventually.

While I agree the default settings should provide more accurate results, this issue can be somewhat corrected by adjusting the awards.ini correct? I use the following settings in 2010 and see more pitching ROY winners. This file also adjusts MVP awards and I do see the rare SP winning it as well.

I did forget about the awards.ini setting, and I'll try to adjust that and see what happens, but you're right that it increases the MVP as well, so I still think that the AI should be adjusted.

Perhaps the best solution would be to split the awards.ini file into one for ROY and one for MVP--that way we as individuals have complete control over how the awards are dealt out.

ROY used to always be biased TOWARDS 2B and SS....who batted .240.

I never thought to switch the .ini file until now.

Yes, I agree with splitting the files.

and pitchers should win ROY's....so there!

Adjusting Awards.ini didn't seem to help. I made pitchers 115, and still, after a 100 year sim, only 1 of the 200 ROTY's given out went to a pitcher.

Atleast its not baised against Rockies.
