Michael Young or Jared Weaver??
pretty standard scoring structure league. I have Zimmerman as my starting 3B and Young as my Corner Infielder but I have Garrett Jones who could fill that role and looks promising. I have OK pitching but Weaver looks solid and is younger. Young is older but had a great year last year, is having a great spring although i hate spring stats and is on a team that should score a ton of runs this year.
Do you trade Young for Weaver?
Re: Michael Young or Jared Weaver??
I would stay with Young. I like his production.
Weaver scares me a bit, the way his bro fell off a cliff. Decent numbers (better than Lackey, from the article I just read).
Jones for Weaver? Sure. Young, no, I would keep him around.
Re: Michael Young or Jared Weaver??
I agree, the drop off from Young to Jones is way too steep
Re: Michael Young or Jared Weaver??
What they said. Garrett Jones has one good season and it's completely out of line with everything he's previously done. I don't think he'll turn into a pumpkin, but I do think he'll be substantially worse than Young.

but weaver or young?
Re: Michael Young or Jared Weaver??
I think it's easier to find hitters than pitchers. I'd take the pitcher.

What? I said..."What they said" which was "Keep Young."
During the fantasy season, it's not as simple as "What player is better?" since it depends heavily on what your other options are. For example, what is your pitching staff? Who's available in free agency? What stats do you need help in? etc.

agree...i'd tried to preface with the fact that I have a fairly decent alternative in Jones offensively. My pitching staff is OK now too I think (wandy rodriguez concerns me) but i don't have a great need for pitching yet. But as fili said;

I"m thinking of this too.
I think Weaver is of the quality that you don't easily find on the FA market. I think of Young as the type that one possibly could. Young is 34 while Weaver I think just turned 29. Both play for quality teams but TEX offense has potential to be spectacular. I've leaned from the beginning at keeping Young....but after the season starts, a slow Young start or hot Weaver start, then its unlikely i'd have the opportunity to get Weaver for Young again. So I wanted to hear if others thought I was thinking irrational.

I didn't realize Jones was as old as he is until your post here. He was a rookie last year and your comments didn't make sense until I learned he was 29. In half a season last year Jones was fabulous though.
Re: Michael Young or Jared Weaver??
You're not thinking irrationally. I don't think you can find a pitcher of Weaver's quality on the FA market, but I also don't think you can find a 3B of Young's quality easily, either. Both are very good players and, in a vacuum, I'd flip a coin. If I had someone better than Garrett Jones, I'd flip Young for Weaver, but if Jones is your best replacement, I'd keep Young.

Yeah... he's a minor league lifer whose career high minor league OPS was .911 way back in 2003 in high A. He was fabulous in his half season with Pittsburgh, but he's unlikely to ever come close to that again. I'd expect something like .260/.320/.460 with 20-25 HR, 7-10 SB, 70-80 runs, 80 RBI.
For Young, I'd expect something like .300/.360/.440, with 16-18 HR, 7-10 SB, 80-90 R, 80-90 RBI.
Re: Michael Young or Jared Weaver??
lol, Garrett Jones. He doesn't even have a job locked up with the Pirates with Jeff Clement taking over at 1B and Ryan Church/Andrew McCutchen/Lastings Milledge set to take over in the OF.
I guess he could bump Church, but I doubt he gets a ton of playing time.

I'm pretty sure he's playing RF and backing up Clement at 1B and Church is going to be used as a utility OF.

I'm guessing they'll share quite a bit of playing time, no?
