Disappointed in rosters
This is my third year of baseball mogul and I was excited for the new season of it. 2011 is good but not great and therefore disappointing. It doesn't seem very different than 2010. The most upsetting thing is the rosters. My team, the Cardinals, have Wellemeyer, Pinero, Thompson, Ring, etc on the team who are not. Pinero signed with LA a long time ago. And they don't have a few players: Hill, Gotay, etc. So I can't imagine all the mistakes throughout the league. I do realize that I can change the rosters, and yes it is a pain in the ass. That, however, takes away from the game to me. Just my thoughts after one day. Good game, just don't like the rosters, considering the game did come out right before the season startted and most players have their teams set in stone. I will continue to play.

Re: Disappointed in rosters
I'm very disappointed as well. I just paid $50 for this game and the rosters aren't even correct? Give me a break. And how is Joe Saunders better than Zack Greinke? Gordon Beckham is a 76/83? The ratings are terrible. I feel ripped off. I know that people will mod new rosters, but I just paid TOP DOLLAR for a slight modification of a game I already have, I shouldn't have to wait for other people to make it playable.

This game doesn't cost $50 bucks, heck, it doesn't even cost $40. You probably feel ripped off because you don't even know the price of the game.
When You buy the game, you are buying a one year subscription to updates to the game.
Last year rosters were made by HGM, so it will be the same. Most Likely Clay will add HGM's work to a patch soon. Hopefully HGM's rosters will become the default rosters.

Re: Disappointed in rosters
I too was disappointed, but new rosters will be created, but I do think they should always be updated before any release.

$45 plus $5 shipping is FIFTY BUCKS. Yes, I bought the physical copy because I plan on getting a new PC in the next year. You probably think you're smart because you don't realize the world doesn't revolve around your experience.

You should feel ripped off because by the sound of it you bought from somewhere other then Sports Mogul and were ripped off.

Re: Disappointed in rosters
Guys, he pre-ordered the physical CD.
Still, I know it's too late now, but you didn't need to do that, even though you're getting a new computer. You could've simply saved the download link and redownloaded it onto the new computer (or saved the set up file on a flash drive or cd).
-
Re: Disappointed in rosters
My disapointment with the rosters are that players I feel should be in the 90s are in the low 80s. Lincecum, Sandoval for example
Even more annoying is that top prospects Madison Bumgarner and Buster Posey are in the low 70s (peak)
Can't wait till the new rosters are released. The roster that comes with the game IMO is greatly understating talent.

Re: Disappointed in rosters
When I bought the game Friday night, it was 34.99 and they sent in an email that they would be mailing a physical copy of the game (I think).
I still don't see where you see an additional 5 bucks then.
if it does cost an additional 10 bucks for the physical copy, then where do you get 50 bucks?

Yeah, I see that was a mistake in retrospect.
Still, this feels like a rushed product. Especially with all the talk about the early decline bugs.

Re: Disappointed in rosters
It does cost over $5 bucks for shipping. I just checked. Type in your zip code then it shows. My apologies to the Eminor3rd. But i would never do that combo. Just use the download next time and save it on your e-mail.

The default rosters are certainly a mess - in more ways than one.
I'm nearing completion on my rosters. I've got 3 teams left to edit plus the free agents. After that, I'm going to update the stadium information and park effects , then do a once over of each team again. Finally, I'm going to run multiple sims to test the statistical output and come up with accurate simulation settings. Then, edit the readme, and it'll be ready for release.

two options.
get ootp then
or
get the patched updates, as boomboom said, when you buy a game like mogul, you need to stay updated on the updates each year to make the game more enjoyable.

how are you editing the players ratings? are you using predictions from fangraphs, or what?

Looking over all the predictions available on Fangraphs (Bill James, Chone, Marcel, Fans, Zips) as well as Pecota and picking the one that I feel is best (or in some cases, combining or averaging them).

Just based off what I know and scouting reports I've read (mostly from Baseball America).

Re: Disappointed in rosters
Seriously guys, I don't know why he paid fifteen dollars more then most of us either (lol?), but don't discount the guys' opinion. I buy this game every year, and considering it keeps a lot of the same form, an accurate roster out of the box/download is not an unfair request. Some guys are just rated too low like Lincecum, Beckham as mentioned, some guys are on the wrong teams.. Pinero off the top my head?
Yes, HoustonGM or whomever is gonna give us a roster patch, are they getting paid by sportsmogul to do this? You say we paid for a subscription to all these updates... that are not made by the developers themselves? That's a hard sell. Why doesn't HoustonGM get paid by Mogul to make the rosters correct before the game is even released then, since he is our roster savior that you defend the developers product against, stating he will fix the current problems.
I like this year's Mogul as a bigger upgrade then the last few years, and would glady buy it again, but that doesn't change the fact that the rosters are very lacking, on a type of game that should depend on having rosters as accurate as possible.
End Rant.

HGM, if you want to ask for donations, just say so. No need to make an alt.
:D

My rosters aren't the updates that boomboom referred to. He is referring to the patches that Clay puts out throughout the year.

Come to think of it, asking for donations isn't a bad idea, though I have no idea how to go about setting a secure method for donations up.

Uh oh...somebody lost big tonight.
How much do you owe the loan sharks, Houston?

Re: Disappointed in rosters
I'd chip in some bling for HoustonGM. I'm sure a lot of people would. Even a dollar or two. His rosters are pure awesomeness... at least until yamiviet's rosters are out next February. Everybody knows yamiviet's rosters are the best, but we can't be too greedy here.
-
Re: Disappointed in rosters
i'd throw in a few bucks for a solid, proven to work HGM roster, although, honestly, and ethically, Clay really should be the one, if anyone asking HGM to do this for the release of the game.
-
Re: Disappointed in rosters
I believe that's why FRS is not doing rosters this year, as far as I know (wanting to be reimbursed for the time put into them). I guess he has a price.
-
Re: Disappointed in rosters
I'll do rosters if people wanted, but I would likely just be doing the same thing HGM is doing.
Houston, can I ask that you go onto Cot's and also input the real life contracts of players, including options?

I do that once their rosters are out. Last year, I based them on FRS' rosters, but only because there were more overall players, which made expansion drafts easier. I would edit players beforehand with accurate contracts (most already were), no-trade clauses (10-and-5 guys), and any player ratings I felt were too high or too low. Then I'd save that MOG file to be my standard roster file. I'll probably do the same with HGM's this year.

I'm pretty sure he does that already with contracts, but no, you can't ask that. You don't have the required amount of posts to ask a question to him yet.

Re: Disappointed in rosters
It turns out there were 274 players on the wrong teams in my data used for Version 13.01.
Attached is the roster set included with Version 13.02. It's not perfect, but it's a big step in the right direction. And I'm sure that the 3rd party rosters will be great. I made some improvement to the editing tools this year (like fixing the "sanity check") that should help a lot in this area.
