Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
instead of the other two threads, who then will reach it?
Sam Rice :D joking ;)
Griffey - 2763
Jeter - 2747
Pudge - 2711
Omar Viz - 2704
Sheffield - 2689
A-Rod - 2531
Hard to imagine anyone beats any of these players to the threshold, and it's hard to think none of them will make it.
Personally, I think Jeter and A-Rod will make it, and Griffey and Pudge COULD.

Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
I think Pudge's two year deal could make him an interesting candidate.
Wondering if he will play first at all, he hasn't since 06, and he barely did then.
-
Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
Jeter and A-Rod will barring catastrophic injury. Jeter is the next to make it.

After being jobbed out of the MVP, Jeter will repsond with a vengance getting 3000 hits this year ... not to 3000, but 3000 this year in only 700 PA ... then try to deny him his rightful MVP!!

Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
Alright, bold prediction, which of these players will reach 3000?
Omar and Sheff won't.
I think the rest are more likely to reach.
But will Griffey get an opportunity to play after this year?
will Pudge play enough in the next two seasons to reach? Or be close enough to play another year? or even care? or be healthy enough to play another year?
-
Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
A-Rod and Jeter will. I don't think anyone else on your list will.

You're completely wrong, unless Henry Blanco is a nickname for Derek Jeter.

Agreed

Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
Griffey won't. Even if he has a bounceback year just because he can't play in the field. I could see him getting a job because he's actually a good pinch hitter and he's left handed, but I can't see him getting more than 200 PA and I doubt he even reaches that milestone this year.

How about this guy:
Chipper Jones (37*) - 2406.
His contract last until 2012, so he'd have to average 198 hits a season (he's never had higher than 189). He has an option in 2013, so if the Braves exercise it, he'd need to average 148 hits a season, which is more do-able. He also has 426 home runs, so he could get to 500 with 25 homers per season (or 19 if the option is picked up).
He has a better shot at 500 homers, but IMO he has more of a chance at 3,000 hits than Vizquel and Sheffield.
(*will turn 38 in April)

Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
Even throwing Chipper in the mix I don't see anyone besides A-Rod and Jeter getting it. I'll agree that he has a better chance than Vizquel and Sheffield, but I still don't think he gets 3,000.
-
Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
Manny Ramirez and Ichiro are probably the other 2 over 30 with a shot. Manny would have to play 3 healthy years, and Ichiro probably needs 6 - so both would have to play until they were 41. I would say neither is likely but both have a better shot than Griffey or Vizquel.

Hey Pudge is 180 or o ahead of A-Rod, he could beat him to it.

Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
I am curious the most to see if pudge reaches it.....it's within reach enough that he might even want to play a third year in Washington for example

He needs 3 more years at the same level of production as he has had for the last 2 (100-110 hits a year). I think the problem will be whether the Nationals want him as a regular catcher for even 2 years. Jesus Flores will recover from his injuries and, if he continues to play well, will probably push Rodriguez to a backup role by next season.

well it was a two year deal, I could see an A.L. team like the Royals signing him as a back up/DH/1B and he reaches in 2012

Easily. He's been a HoFer for a few years now.

yeah, no question pudge is a hofamer

Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
As HGM said, barring catastrophic injury, Jeter and A-Rod will get to 3,000. Jeter will get there first. All of the other guys in the poll are outside shots at best to make it. I think Ichiro will get there too. Not sure on Manny. And, yeah, Pudge is a HoFer without getting to 3,000.

Re: Who will be the next to reach 3000 hits?
Pudge could have retired three years ago and he would have been inducted into the hall

Yeah, he's not enhancing his stature any by hanging around. It's been obvious for some time that he was one of the best catchers in baseball history, but not THE BEST, and hanging around to pad his counting stats doesn't do anything to change that in the eyes of reasonable, knowledgable observers.
Of course, it's not entirely fair of me to assume that his goal in continuing to play has been just to pad his stats. It's possible that he just loves playing the game so much that he doesn't want to give it up, or that he has handled his money poorly and needs the paychecks.

As of the end of 2009, Ichiro Suzuki has recorded 3,308 hits in his combined career in Japan and MLB: 1,278 with the Orix BlueWave, and 2,030 so far with the Seattle Mariners. Ichiro's 3000th hit came on 2008-07-29 against the Texas Rangers.
