34 Resume's sent out since I've moved to NYC
1 Interview
This is by far the worst slump of my life.
I was like a .600 hitter previously.
Everyone goes into a slump. Even Pujols. Just don't adjust your swing yet. It worked before. Can't let it get to you mentally.
I thought this was in reference to John Schusters curling performance at the Olympics ..
I know how you feel, it's been 2 months since I came back in Montreal and I sent a lot of resumes. Only one firm called, and it wasn't because of me; a friend of mine recommended me and I got the interview (and I was the one bitching about networking and making contacts at school).
Fortunately, I was able to make an impression and I'm going back there tomorrow to negociate a contract. Hopefully something good will happen to you.
What kind of work are you looking for?
Good luck Fili. I am in the same boat myself. I think I might have a job, but I am crossing my fingers until I know for sure.
Anybody can bat .600 in AAA. New York is the Major Leagues now!
5 for 42 now. My BABIP was really bad there for a while, but I'm progressing to the mean
Eh, look at it this way: at least you may get a job. We should all be thankful for any jobs we can get in this economy.
We will be highering in a month or 2 anyone who is intereted :p
any plans on other ways to contact potential employers?
It's not about what you know, but who you know....go to chamber events? Have friends help you through the door?
I don't know what you are applying for, but generally, it helps to know someone at the company you are applying for.
What kind of job is it, Fili?
That'd be a cool job. I hate sitting behind a desk. But since there are 26000 trees just in Central Park, I'd be pretty busy.
All (most of) the jobs I've applied for have been in the social services industry. The one I accepted is working with adults with developmental disabilities. I'd be visiting their homes doing assessments on how things are going with them. What they are succeeding at, what they could use some help with, and what they'd like to improve about their lives.
The job I interview for next week that sounds really exciting would be working with people with other types of mental disabilities (schizophrenia, psychosis, etc) that I've never dealt with before. It's in a 'clubhouse' setting where the participants come voluntarily and run the clubhouse and help each other to solve their problems. It's something new that I've never done before but it sounds very cool
Both of those jobs sound really cool Fili.
Not saying that Jeffy is a nazi but every time I hear this
I can't help but think of this

I'm miserable...
HR just seems to be really slow around here.
I've decided on two organizations that I want to work for. I've accepted one position and they are chomping at the bit for me to get started. Trouble is...I'm still waiting to hear from the other place. The first place is trying to assign some clients to me, but I don't want to accept them then have to drop them because it conflicts with my other schedule.
Plus...a couple times a week places that I sent resume's to 6 weeks ago are still calling me for interviews...
I guess there could be worse problems, but for a guy who hates making decisions, this is pretty tough.
man, i miss interviewing and the excitement.
after 2.5 years in the same job, i would be happy to interview. enjoy it!
