Vikings vs Saints Great Game
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
sudden death OT being decided by a kick, is retardedly boring.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
Both are great teams, but despite the Turnovers, the Vikings played a better game. Too bad it was decided by a coin flip. Some questionable calls near the end of this one.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
Great football game. Great win for the city of New Orleans. I feel terrible for Brett throwing that pick near the end.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
I felt bad when he threw the pick on his last NFC championship game. Now I just laughed and felt happy because I was rooting for the Saints.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
Very good game. Part of me wanted the Saints to win because I like the team better and part of me wanted the Vikings to win so Farve can (hopefully) leave the game in peace and STAY GONE!!
Even though the Saints won it looked to me like the Vikings beat themselves more than the Saints did.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
i wouldn't call it a great game. sure it was exciting because it was close but it was sloppy. I hate sloppy football games. There were some great plays and gutsy performances...but i can't call it a great game.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
I was happy and greatful for Brett Favre throwing that interception. Favre sucks.

I heard somewhere he's only three shy of 500 career TD passes. We'll see him next year...
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
It was a nice, high-scoring game, but not necessarily a great game with the frequent turnovers (as noted by other posters) and some dodgy calls.
Still, the way it ended is a joke. A New Orleans win because of a coin flip and a field goal? Sheesh . . . At least give the other team a chance to touch the ball . . . (Or maybe even a field goal shootout).

all of me hopes that Favre makes whatever decision he wants as its his career. if someone is willing to have him and he's willing to play....then its a non-issue for me.

Sorry, I'm a soccer football fan, so I love shootouts. :P

Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
Just for the record, the Vikes could have got the ball back had they stopped the Saints. You guys make it sound like the Saints won the coin toss & boom they called it a game & the Vikes left the field
I also agree w/ Tann, that while it was a good game, I didn't think it was great. The insane amount of fumbles was funny to me, I mean it looked like the Vikings had their gloves coated in butter the whole game

Thats how I feel. All these people that come down hard on him need to relax.

Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
I think if he had won the Super Bowl he would have retired as that is his goal. I think the Vikings will want him back next year.

I dunno, next year could be the Year of Tavaris...or Sage

this is the fourth ever championship game to go to overtime. This is the first in which the winner of the coin toss won the game. enough said.

the vikings would be foolish not to want him back.

I still think that the Vikings would prefer to have Favre back over Tavaris and Sage . . .

Haha I think the entire world saw Tavaris standing on the sidelines after Brett got carried off and went "Congrats Saints"

My only complaint with him playing is the way he goes about it. He jerked around Aaron Rogers and then made last second decisions with the Jets and Vikings too. I personally don't like that style. I didn't like it when Clemens pulled that stunt either, and he didn't do it nearly as much as Favre has.

exactly, the play their regular ball game, 18 to in 16 regular season games, and they win the game hands down. If I am Minn I am thinking what are the odds we play that poolry again in he same situation so I would bring Favre back.

one could also say that the Packers jerked him around by drafting a player so highly while having an allpro QB.
fact of the matter is...the Pack did what they had to do and Favre did what he had to do. He shouldn't be forced to make a quick decision if he doesn't want to by the team and most certainly not by the fans. In what profession is that acceptable??? Its his career....and if he wants to decide in late August that he wants to play again in Sept., if someone wants to sign him or allow him to play than its no big deal. If that means Rodgers gets sent back to the bench, so be it. Thats the business.

I'm a soccer fan, too. I hate shootouts. Any sport that has to award 3 "points" for a win needs some serious redesign.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
MIN was clearly moving the ball better in the 2nd half. Is it possible that this this was partly due to the fact that the Saints were going 100% for turnovers, at the expense of tackling and coverage?
I did hear in pre-game about the Saints were spending all week working on forcing fumbles. If so, then MIN didn't beat themselves as much as New Orleans took some risks that just barely paid off.

Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
NHL shootouts are awesome. Soccer, not so much but 1000x better than the NFL.
"LOL U BETR GET THE COINFLIP RIET!"

Welllll only 4 out of 10 teams that take the ball on the first posession win.

40% is quite a bit.

Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
It's a minority though. And the way people get so pissed, they act like it's 9 out of 10.
I don't have a major problem with the NFL's overtime system. I have a bit of a quarrel with the kickers thing because it's just seeing which team makes it to the 30 yard line first.
I'm not a major fan of the college system being transplanted into the NFL though. I think if the NFL were to change, they shouldn't copy the college system.
Maybe, play one quarter and see who has the most points at the end. Like soccer's ET before penalty kicks.

Yeah, that.
I've also heard it suggested (and I'm not really endorsing any particular one) that you eliminate the coin-toss and just let whoever has possession keep possession (like the first-to-second and third-to-fourth quarter breaks), and just proceed from there as usual until someone scores. But that means keeping sudden-death overtime, and I'm just not a big fan of sudden-death in pro football.
And I've also heard it suggested (with due respect to Adam Vinatieri and others) that you just eliminate field goals as a scoring option altogether, when in overtime. The greater difficulty required to score may make a sudden-death conclusion at least a little more palatable.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
I say get rid of sudden death overtime, but if they really want to keep it they should get rid of FGs. It's like shortening the field from your 20 yard line to their 30.
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
Could you imagine if they did this to baseball? First team to score wins *troll face*
-
Re: Vikings vs Saints Great Game
Well baseball is obviously entirely different as it's a different way of scoring.
The closest thing would be if they did basketball like that. Which would just be dumb as hell.
