I can't blame A's fans for being upset at the loss of one of their top prospects.
 I think he would have to be hospitalized...

That would be true if he left any job, nearly all companies spend time, money manpower and effort on training their employees to do their jobs, why should it be any bigger disappointment because it is a sports team as his employer and his job is playing a game?
Re: A's prospect leaving the game for priesthood
I just want to point out I would have the same level of frustration if he left the game to pursue a career in anything else.
And of course I understand about doing what you want to do in life, more power to ya, it still sucks though.

Other careers don't usually have a fan base. :p

I'm sure people would judge his decision to do those things and less people would stand up to say 'don't judge his decision'. [/religious discussion]
Sucks for the A's and their fans.
[religious discussion]Sucks for all those gullible enough to fall for the ideas Grant will be discussing in the future[/religious discussion again]
Re: A's prospect leaving the game for priesthood
Grants first sermon.
"Always persue what you want to do in life, I walked away from the game of baseball. Because I did that, can you guys donate a little extra to the collection plate?" :p
Re: A's prospect leaving the game for priesthood

But when a young man feels called to make it his life, and willing to leave a promising young career as an athlete behind, that should tell you how passionate it is for some. Obviously he feels his life will make a greater difference as a priest than as a baseball player. I don't want to hear anyone judging that.
I wish Keith Foulke did this for his passion for Hockey after the 2004 World Series win when he basically quit on baseball, haha. Not the same situation I know.

Hey - it could be worse. He could be hitting homers or making game-saving plays...and then speaking to post-game interviewers about how it's all for the glory of gahd.
If that is the other option - please, head to the priesthood, young man!

Just because YOU think it's gullible doesn't mean that the rest of the world is gullible in having a belief.

A ton of player's thank God or gods constantly. He certainly wouldn't be the only one.
Re: A's prospect leaving the game for priesthood
I'm happy for him. He is going to get to do what he wants throughout his life time. It's a great career opportunity for those that want to pursue religious life. For those that want to call it fiction, or people being gullible for believing in something greater than themselves.....then so be it. I'm happy for the guy, and I hope he gets exactly what he is pursing out of life, and chances are, he will.

Trot Nixon was a great example of that.
