A classy hard nosed middle infielder/centre fielder. The Craig Biggio (but a better player) before Craig Biggio, or maybe Craig Biggio was Robin Yount-lite. You get the point. ;)
+1 also to HGM on Bonds and (insert Ty Cobb here ;) ) Williams being the best players without a ring, without question.
As for Ozzie Guillen. Has the man ever met a microphone or camera that he didn't like? Ugh, what a ridiculous statement.
Jenkins, oh boy...he makes me :o :o :o to be a Canadian with that kind of blatant hypocrisy - reflections sums up my feelings on him.
I think Yount joins Mike Schmidt and Jim Kaat in the group of old-timers who are willing to acknowledge that the temptation to do steroids in that era must have been very high in order to "keep up with the Joneses" (not implicating any Joneses that played in that era k?). Any old school player that criticizes these guys is more than likely a hypocrite given the amphetamine era, the cocaine era, the '60's etc. Clark, Fisk and Jenkins are really just setting themselves up for trouble if any skeletons from their closets ever see the light of day. Of course as has been noted, quite a few of Jenkins' skeletons have already seen the light of day, so I'm surprised by his strong, hypocritical stance.
Frankly I'm fatigued with all the hand wringing, but not surprised. Good things have come out of this. Drug testing, though not 100% foolproof is catching people and not just the flotsam of the league, but also some big stars. As I have said before this restores the illusion of a level playing field and fans that still believe in the "purity" of MLB can go back to deluding themselves, sharpening their knives and keeping their torches handy, until the next big scandal rocks the baseball world. Don't get me wrong the game of baseball itself is pure, but to believe in the purity of MLB is to believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, leprechauns, fairies, wishing wells and shooting stars all rolled into one. It ain't pure now and it never was, quit crying about it and enjoy the games.

Wow. I guess a lot of great players never won a ring. I suppose Yount isn't in the same category as some of those others. He still is the greatest Brewer to never win a world series. Don't know why Ernie Banks always stood out to me. Maybe it was that he never even played in a series?? Is Banks the greatest to never play in a world series??

Just off the top of my head - Ken Griffey Jr.
I'm sure there are a lot of guys, though.

Yeah. Griffey but he is a current player. Banks being the best W/O ring is something I picked up as a kid(before Griffey even started). But I am sure especially with all these newer stats their probablly are players who could be judged better who have never played in a series...
