Every 1 always forgets me when talking about metsfan I am just as good as MG :(
That really sucks. Beltran is one of my favorite players. That really hurts the Mets chances of competing for the WC, though. Wright/Reyes/Santana and then a bunch of below average players.

Trying to get 2d confirmation, but hear that Beltran had microfracture knee surgery today without #Mets permission

Meanwhile, SI's Jon Heyman hears that the operation calls for eight weeks of rehab and may cause the 32-year-old to miss the start of the year.
better than whole season, have to wonder if this will cause any issues between beltran and the mets
This is a crushing blow. The Mets really needed a fast start to this season to get their swagger back and legitimacy back. They needed the media to talk about how they're healthy now and living up to their potential.
Good thing I still have Ollie Perez as my sleeper pick.
Jason Bay in center, anyone? What's that, -41 runs?
Yikes...microfracture rehab can be pretty dicey. For every guy who comes right back on schedule, there's 3 others who end up missing extended periods of time.

So much for having merely a bone bruise.
It looks like Carlos Beltran made a wise choice in going back to his own Doctor - Dr. Richard Steadman - as it turns out he had a good bit of Osteoarthritis in his right knee. He had Microfracture surgery on Wednesday, which means that at the very earliest, Beltran would not return to the Mets until April. In all likelihood, May or June seems to be a more reasonable scenario.
Whenever you are dealing with articular cartilage (the hard, end plate cartilage that bears weight), all bets are off. There are many factors to consider with this recovery: location/size/depth of cartilage damage, chronicity of the injury, individual’s pain tolerance/perception of pain, health factors, previous strength level, training, etc.
Plagued by knee pain over the recent years, Beltran has contributed heavily to many fantasy baseball teams. However, the past three years have shown a decline in power numbers (ISO, SLG%, HR/FB ratio), as well as a propensity towards the ground ball, as noted by an increase in GB%. Interestingly, his stolen base totals have still been pretty darn solid.
Look for that to change this year, as it would not surprise me at all to see Beltran dip under the 10 SB mark.
This is ridiculous. He got this surgery without the team's permission. That should be grounds to back out of his contract.

You can understand the Mets’ concerns about potentially losing their best player for a month or so, especially after he missed half of 2009 because of ouchies. But regardless of whether the punishment will be monetary or a public shaming-by-dunking in Flushing Bay, the team is going to come off looking like the bad guy. Yes, even though the Mets fans are a bunch of unappreciative doofuses who take every opportunity to disparage of the best center fielders of his generation, the team will look really ridiculous if they give Beltran the business for just doing his best to get healthy.
The Mets are a mess.
Isn't this not the first time Beltran has done something like this? I seem to recall an incident similar to this a few years back with him, but maybe I'm just crazy.
I don't remember any previous incident and can't find anything through some quick searching.
Found something:

The players' association filed a grievance Friday to block the Kansas City Royals' suspension of AL Rookie of the Year Carlos Beltran.
Beltran was suspended without pay Thursday for refusing to report to the team's Florida training complex for rehabilitation. The Royals said the suspension would last for 30 days or until he reports, whichever is shorter.
I rememeber something with the Mets. maybe i was mistaken on it being Beltran
