Sterling Hitchcock completely shut us down in this game. He held us hitless into the sixth inning, and the only run he allowed was a solo homer by Nomar in the ninth inning. In total, his line was 8.2 IP, 4 H, 2 BB, HR, ER, 8 K. Saberhagen wasn't nearly as successful, allowing nine hits and four runs in 3 1/3 innings. Saberhagen is gonna find himself shipped outta town before too long.

I'm actually pretty surprised we won this game. I didn't have high hopes when we were going into a game where the pitching match-up was Randy Johnson vs. Jamie Moyer. But we actually managed to get to Randy for five runs in 4 1/3 innings, while Moyer went six innings and allowed only three runs on six hits and three walks. Jeff Frye went 1-4 with a three run homer, and Naehring was 2-3 with two RBI's.

Much like the first game of the series, our starter gets railed and the opposing starter owns us. Bosio went all nine innings and allowed just one run on five hits and two walks, and held us hitless until the seventh inning, while Wakefield allowed six runs in three innings on four hits and three walks, and saw his ERA explode to 6.94. Our only run driven in came off Mike Stanley's bat in the seventh inning.

Thoughts: Kind of a strange series. We get to Randy Johnson for five runs, but between two middle of the road starters (at best) they get 17 2/3 innings of two run ball, and both of them held us hitless for over half the game. We also may be on the verge of an inter-division blockbuster trade involving a couple of shortstops, a struggling starter, and a first baseman with an excellent bat.
A couple interesting stats I thought I'd share with you all (I'm gonna try to find a couple stats like this every couple of series updates and show them, just to break up the posts a little):
And some updated standings for the AL East and AL Wild Card:

SABERHAGEN SENT PACKING TO CINCY
RED SOX RECEIVE LARKIN

After finally getting completely fed up with Saberhagen's struggles I put him, along with John Valentin, on the block and found a deal that was too good to pass up. We send the 32 year old Bret Saberhagen (88) along with SS John Valentin (82) to the Cincinnati Reds for All-Star shortstop Barry Larkin (86), 27 year old second baseman Bret Boone (79), C Joe Oliver (73), and RP Scott Service (73). Saberhagen had been vastly under-performing to this point in the season (2-3 with a 5.44 ERA in nine starts and 51.1 innings), as had John Valentin (.234/.315/.490 in 145 at bats), and we wanted to make room for top prospect Jeff Suppan in the rotation. This deal also locks up our shortstop position for the foreseeable future. We believe this is a fair deal because both Saberhagen and Valentin actually do have very good vitals in spite of their poor performance this year, and their inclusion of Joe Oliver does some to even off the salaries going back and forth. Both Valentin and Saberhagen's contracts expire at the end of the season as well, so the Reds aren't locked into ugly longterm contracts with them.

I was a little bit iffy on it myself. I don't want to rip the computer off, but I thought that it was close enough that I'd let myself go through with it. Thanks :). I'm having a great time writing it too, and the comments are appreciated and encouraged.

I'm really liking this dynasty as well. My realism gripe on the trade is that it probably happens too soon in the season. But this is still a darn good read.

Red Sox 4 - Angels 1
Larkin's Red Sox debut was an ugly one. The recently acquired star shortstop went 0-5 with two strikeouts. The offense was a little stagnant throughout the whole game, and the biggest hit of the game came in the sixth when Nomar hit his ninth homer of the season to drive in two runs (tying him for the team lead in homers). The game was pitched brilliantly, however. Clemens went the first six innings and gave up only one run on five hits and two walks, while striking out four, and the two relievers, Slocumb and Gordon, combined to go three innings of scoreless ball on three hits and one walk. Even the opposing start Langston only allowed two runs in seven innings. Jeff Suppan makes his first major league start in the next game.

Jeff Suppan pitched a brilliant game in his first major league start, going six innings and allowing one run on three hits and six walks, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to win. Tom Gordon allowed them to tie it in the bottom of the ninth, then gave up a walkoff home run to Garrett Anderson in the bottom of tenth to give up the game. Nomar had a good game at the plate, going 3-5 and falling a home run short of the cycle. Barry Larkin also collected the first hits of his Red Sox career, going 2-5 with a run.

This game was extremely frustrating. Jamie Moyer pitched very well (6 IP, 7 H, 2 BB, 1 ER, 4 K), but two errors led to two unearned runs that effectively did us in. All of our runs came via the longball, with Larkin leading off the game with his first career Red Sox home run and first home run of the season overall, as well as two solo shots by Mo Vaughn.

I honestly think Wakefield is trying to pitch himself out of the rotation. This time out he allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings and his ERA swelled to 7.04. The recent acquisitions were the only ones to perform in this one, with Barry Larkin going 2-4 with two runs, and Rondell White going 1-4 with a two run homer. Nomar also went 2-4 with an RBI.

Thoughts: That series was extremely frustrating. We were a couple errors and shoddy bullpen performances away from getting out of California winning three out of four in that series, but as it happened we leave there losing three of the four instead. Our recent acquisition of Rondell White isn't working out quite as well as we've hoped so far (.712 OPS in 40 AB's), but by no means are we considering pulling him from the lineup anytime soon. Nixon also isn't hitting well (.399 OPS in 38 AB's), so I'm thinking I might have brought him up too soon. But I'm gonna leave him in the lineup a few more weeks and if he doesn't pick it up I'll re-evaluate later. Next up we're home against the Yankees, and with us sitting three games back of them for the division lead it's gonna be a big series.

This win was huge. We take two of three in the series and manage to make up a game in the standings. It was also a game of firsts, as Jeff Suppan collected his first career win in a very well pitched game (7 IP, 5 H, 0 BB, 2 ER, 3 K), and Trot Nixon got his first career home run. Nomar Garciaparra went 2-3 with a walk and two RBI's, and Larkin was 2-3 with a walk and a run.

Thoughts: That series was really big for us. We managed to make up a game in the standings, and we've got some creampuffs coming up. The Yankees also face off with the White Sox, the team we're chasing for the Wild Card, so with those two beating up on each other we're in great position to make up some ground in the division and wild card races. Barry Larkin also suffered a minor foot fracture in the last game against the Yankees and will miss 11 games. In light of the injury we converted from a 13 man bullpen back to a 12 man bullpen, sending down Stan Belinda for Troy O'Leary.

Tom Gordon may have finally pitched himself out of the closers role in this game. We were leading by a run going into the top of the ninth inning, and Gordon gives up a two run homer to Shawn Green with two outs for the Jays to take the lead. We managed to tie it in the bottom of the inning, but ultimately the Jays managed to win the game in 12 innings. Vaughn was easily the player of the game, going 2-3 with three walks, two runs, a homer, and four RBI's. Nomar also pitched in with three hits, a walk, a run and a steal, and increased his season batting average to .388, good for second in the American League.

We managed to rough Viola up pretty badly in the last game of this series. We got nine runs and eights hits off him in only four innings of work, which proved to be more than enough for us to get a win. The biggest blow of the game came in the fifth, when Mike Greenwell homered with the bases loaded to put us up 10-1 and basically put the game out of reach for the Jays. Clemens also pitched quite well, allowing just one run on four hits and four walks over six innings. Jeff Frye had a great game, going 4-5 with three runs, two homers, and three RBI's. Thoughts: Well so much for being able to make up some ground on the Yankees and/or White Sox since we were playing some creampuffs. We did make up a game on the White Sox, but apparently the Blue Jays didn't appreciate being called creampuffs and pulled themselves further into the playoff race. Next up we're in Detroit, against whom we're 5-4 this season, with Suppan, Moyer, and Wakefield scheduled to pitch.
I also wanted to share with you all the monster season Manny Ramirez is having:
The closest to him in homers is Cecil Fielder with 17, RBI's is his own teammate Albert Belle with 56, and OPS is Rafael Palmeiro who he leads by nearly 100 points! His slugging percentage is only one point lower than my team OPS! The only triple crown stat he's not leading in is batting average (which is led by Nomar with a .390 batting average), and if not for him and his monster season Nomar might be the leading contender for the MVP award. But as it is it would take a drop-off of epic proportions for Manny to not win the MVP this season.

Nomar will miss the next six games with a twisted ankle. This injury really sucks because the rest of the lineup has been struggling a little lately. Fortunately we're not playing the Yankees or anything huge like that, plus we have an off day after the series with the Tigers to let him recover. With him not in the lineup Bret Boone will be DHing and batting sixth, with everyone ahead of him simply moving up a spot.

Nomar's bat being out of the lineup visibly hurt us in this game. There were multiple times when his replacement, Bret Boone, came up with men on base and failed to drive them. Even in the top of the ninth, Boone came up with two men on and no out and he walked. Normally I wouldn't complain about that, but even a sac fly in that situation is better than a walk. Wakefield also continues his struggles by allowing five runs in five innings this time out. If I had a better alternative to him I'd put him in immediately, but unfortunately I don't.

Thoughts: We are really falling out of the playoff race at an alarming rate right now. We've gone from the AL East lead to five game back and barely pushing .500 in about two or three weeks. Hopefully once we get everyone back and healthy things will turn around. Rondell White has been one of the only things keeping us above water lately, as in his last ten games he's hitting .275/.356/.750 with five homers and 12 RBI's (screenshot below). We also really need to find something to do about the pitching staff. Clemens, Suppan, and Moyer have been reliable lately (until Moyer's last start), but I haven't gotten anything out of Wakefield all season, and Suppan can't possibly keep pitching as well as he has this consistently for the rest of the season. I'll be seeing what's out there for trade in the coming months.

RED SOX ANNOUNCE ROSTER CHANGES
STARTER WAKEFIELD AMONG THOSE SENT DOWN
http://blog.masslive.com/sports_impa...ld-red-sox.jpg
Our list of roster changes is as follows:
Tim Wakefield demoted to AAA, Aaron Sele called up to #4 started in his place
Hideki Okajima demoted to AAA, Brian Shouse called up to MR in his place
Rich Garces promoted to CL, Tom Gordon demoted to MR
I know in the previous post I said that I didn't have anyone better than Wakefield to replace him, but then I figured no one could possibly do as bad or worse than he was doing, so I decided to send him down, at least temporarily. If he does well in AAAthere's a good chance he'll get called back up to either the bullpen or starting rotation (particularly if Sele, Henry, or Suppan struggle). Also Okajima was getting smacked around a little in the bigs, and Brian Shouse had an ERA just below 2.00 in AAA, so that was an easy call. And the last move is as simple as the fact that Tom Gordon has had an ERA north of 6.00 basically all season, and Garces has been quite effective in his limited major-league experience, so I decided to give him a shot at the closers role.

Re: Red Sox Memoirs - Spiderman and The Rocket (1996 - )
Okay, I may just have made an error. I deleted all my uploaded images from imageshack because I was having a hard time uploading more. And I noticed after I did that the screenshot of Rondell White's last ten games disappeared (I fixed it already), and I'm pretty sure it's because I deleted it. I'm hoping other images won't start disappearing (they haven't yet), because I don't have them saved anymore. But if they do that's the reason. I think the Rondell White one may have just disappeared because it had only been uploaded a half hour or so before I deleted them all from my imageshack account, so hopefully the others won't disappear because they've been up there for a while already. But if they do you know why. It won't affect anyone whose already been reading up to this point, but for anyone who latches on going forward you may be a little confused about that. So yeah, that's all, back to your originally scheduled program.

SPIDERMAN AND ROCKET UPDATE - MAY
SS/DH Nomar Garciaparra (80/92), 22 years old
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/915...nhunter4fw.jpg
Nomar just keeps raking. He's leading the team in every basic offensive stat except home runs. Additionally, he's leading the team in a variety of more advanced, sabrmetric stats including OPS, isolated power, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and runs created per nine innings. He's easily the run-away winner of AL Rookie of the Year right now, and if not for Manny's absolutely otherworldly performance at the plate in Cleveland he'd be a good pick for MVP as well.
SP Roger Clemens (96), 33 years old
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7...enhunter3m.jpg
Clemens has basically been one of the only things keeping us above water this season. The offense has been consistently good, but Clemens has been the only reliable pitcher all season (until Suppan came up, and it's unreasonable to expect that to continue from a rookie, especially since his peripherals aren't too hot right now). He's leading the team in just about every starting pitcher stat there is besides most losses. He's the easy front-runner for AL Cy Young right now too, and he may even be a solid contender for MVP.

TEAM UPDATE - APRIL
BATTING LINEUP
http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/7...nhunter1ky.jpg
NOTE: I highlighted Nomar as the team leader in runs and steals in spite of there being players with higher totals because those were players that I traded for and the majority of those numbers were collected with other teams.
The lineup has continued to be consistently very good throughout the season. Some players have fallen off their originally meteoric pace, Naehring and Greenwell for example, but are still performing very well. The team MVP at the plate has easily been Nomar. As I mentioned in the post before he's leading the team in just about every offensive category except home runs, and even there he's only three off tying Vaughn. Nixon still isn't performing particularly well, but I'm being patient and I'm gonna give him until around the All-Star Break to hit at a respectable level. Naehring's performance has fallen precipitously as well, but I'm also gonna give him until the All-Star Break to right the ship, and if he doesn't by then we'll shuffle the infield around and possibly play Boone at shortstop.
PITCHING STAFF
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/312...enhunter2s.jpg
The pitching staff hasn't been nearly as good or consistent as the lineup. Clemens is the only one in the starting rotation whose been good (or in his case, mind-bogglingly dominant) all season. Moyer had a run of a few good starts, until his last start when he got completely destroyed. I do expect him to pitch a little better and put up a 4.30-4.50 ERA by the end of the season, which is perfectly okay with me. Suppan has been excellent in his first three starts, but as I've said before it would be foolish and unrealistic to expect him to keep up his current level of performance when he's still only a rookie, and when he's average a strikeout once every (roughly) three innings. I do think it's realistic to expect a high 3.00 or low to mid 4.00 ERA from him though. If we can get that from Moyer and Suppan and Clemens continues to be dominant, and we can get SOMETHING (ANYTHING) out of the last two spots that should leave us in good position to make the playoffs. Aside from Gordon the bullpen has been solid overall, and I do think Garces will do a good job as the closer. And if he doesn't I'll move him back out of the role and either put Slocumb in it, or put Gordon back in it if he stops throwing meatballs every other pitch.

Okay, I did notice some of the older pictures are starting to disappear. It sucks, but there's nothing I can do about it, and it shouldn't really affect things going forward anyways.

Clemens certainly didn't pitch his best in this game (5.1 IP, 5 H, 5 BB, 5 ER, 7 K), but with the production from the offense he didn't need to. One of the things I saw in this game that I found very encouraging was how well Nixon hit, going 3-5 with a homer, two doubles, and three RBI's. I'm hoping it's a sign that he's turning things around and he's gonna start hitting at a respectable level. Mike Greenwell also had an excellent game, going 2-5 with two homers and five RBI's. Tom Gordon also pitched well in his first appearance since being demoted from the closers role, going 2 2/3 scoreless innings.

Another display put on by the offense, and another fantastic outing by the young Suppan. Suppan went the first six innings and allowed just two runs on six hits and three walks, while striking out four. Offensively Trot Nixon continued his solid hitting from the last game and went 2-4 with a double and two RBI's. Bret Boone was the hero of the game, though, going 4-5 with a homer and four RBI's. With Naehring's recent struggles, Boone may very well be playing himself into the lineup.

Nomar goes 1-4 with a walk and a run in his return to the lineup, but we still lose. We managed to tie the game in the top of 8th with a bases loaded double by Mike Stanley, and send it to extras. But they won in the tenth on a squeeze play with men on the corners that we couldn't cover.

Thoughts
We're finally healthy again! Larkin and Nomar are both back in the lineup, which can only bode well for an offense that played well this series. Boone is definitely gonna get some more playing time going forward as well, since he's killed the ball since joining us (HR, 7 RBI's, 1.021 OPS). It shouldn't be too hard to fit him in since Naehring and Frye aren't the most durable of players and could use more days off than I've been giving them. Next up we've got the draft, the Royals, and the Orioles.

Personally I like text aligned to the left. Maybe article titles centered, but it just seems like a more natural read if things on aligned left.

RED SOX DRAFT REVIEW 1996
ROUND #1, #26 OVERALL
SP JUNIOR HERNDON (51/92), 17 YEARS OLD
http://i955.photobucket.com/albums/a...nHunter_11.jpg
Unfortunately we didn't get any of the guys we targeted, and apparently we were being way too hopeful as most of them were taken in the top ten picks of the draft. Regardless though, we do like our first round pick Herndon. He's not a health concern, and he has very good vitals, especially at such a young age. It's also good to see that both of his pitches are very close in terms of quality and development. The one thing that does worry me about him, though, is the lack of pitches. All he's got is a fastball and a curveball, and if one's off they both might as well be off.
ROUND #2, #52 OVERALL
SP LUKE PROKOPEC (54/87), 18 YEARS OLD
I actually almost like Luke better than our first rounder Herndon. His endurance isn't quite what you'd expect from a guy whose supposed to go six or seven innings, but that should improve as he gets innings in the minors. Other than that his vitals look really nice, very good control and power, and solid movement. His fastball and curve are both very nice pitches, with his change a bit behind but still capable of becoming a good third pitch. I have really high hopes for this guy and I think he'll be an ace down the road.
ROUND #3, #82 OVERALL
RF CLIFF KALINE (52/83), 17 YEARS OLD
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7...nhunter4us.jpg
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, I don't remember why I took this guy over Jason Bay, who was also available at our pick. He's not a bad prospect, but there were definitely better ways for me to spend this pick. He looks like he'll be a decent hitter with a strong arm and solid glove, but I really don't expect him to become anything more than a fourth outfielder.
ROUND #4, #110 OVERALL
SS ERICK ALMONTE (52/79), 18 YEARS OLD
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/9...enhunter5k.jpg
Once it gets down to this point in the draft I'm basically just looking for guys with good health that might be able to stay healthy enough to develop into something. I think Almonte was a solid pick though. Looks like he stands a good chance of turning into a good contact-OBP guy. His glove doesn't look like much now, but I expect that he'll get better and turn into a pretty solid if not better fielder.
ROUND #5, #138 OVERALL
1B JOSH PHELPS (53/78), 18 YEARS OLD
http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/3...enhunter6l.jpg
I'm actually really happy with this pick. I think Phelps can turn into a very useful player. He's not much of an injury risk, and he's got excellent power. His glove probably isn't good enough to stay at first, though he does have a good arm so maybe a move to a corner outfield spot is in store for him. I really like his bat, excellent power, as I said before, and it also seems like he'll have pretty good contact and a good eye.
ROUND #6, #166 OVERALL

Sele got a little roughed up in his first major league start of the season, going 4 2/3 innings and allowing five runs on nine hits and four walks. Barry Larkin had a solid game in his return from injury, going 1-4 with a walk and a run. I do have to say though, it is a little humiliating when a guy who was previously 0-8 gets the first win of his season against you.

Very good game for Henry in terms of not allowing runs, very poor game for Henry in not giving up a metric ****ton of hits, but fortunately that doesn't matter unless they cross the plate. Butch went eight innings and allowed only one run, but he gave up TEN hits and two walks and struck out three. It's a small miracle we were able to win inspite of him giving up that many hits, especially when the offense didn't exactly kill the ball in this game. Mo Vaughn drove in all our runs on a homer and a single.

We won this on a well pitched game by Clemens. Clemens went all nine innings allowing only three runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out five. The two guys coming off injury right, Nomar and Larkin, have struggled a bit since returning from their injuries. Nomar is a mere 3-15 since returning to the lineup, while Larkin is only 1-12. We really need them to start hitting again if we're gonna really get back into the playoff race and stay in it.

What a fantastic game. Wil Cordero hits a three-run homer in the bottom of the tenth for us to win it, and Jeff Suppan goes seven innings and allows only two runs on five hits and a walk. Nomar and Larkin both went 1-4 with a walk, and Mike Stanley went 3-4 with a run.

Thoughts: It was great to take three of four. However due to the Yankees absolutely destroying everything and everyone right now and in the middle of a six game winning streak, we still sit six games back of first in the division, and four back of the White Sox for the Wild Card. We really need Nomar and Larkin to start hitting like they were before they got injured. Wil Cordero's overall and peak also just underwent a huge change, going from 70-something/80-something to 85/92. Maybe since Naehring is just not hitting anymore I'll start getting him and Boone more time at third, and throw him at 1B after the season if I don't resign Vaughn.

Definitely Moyer's best start of the season. He went the first 8 2/3 innings and allowed just two runs on six hits and struck out six. Wowza, what a game! We scored at least one run in every inning but the second inning and the eighth inning to keep ourselves in the game. Which was a little surprising with Mussina on the mound, but we managed to get to him for five runs in fives innings. We entered the ninth trailing by a run, but Nomar singled to lead off the inning, and then Mo hit a two-run homer for the very next batter to let us walk off with the win. The homer was Mo's second of the game, and the RBI's were his 4th and 5th of the game. Nomar also had an excellent game, going 4-5 with three runs.

Excellent game out of the offense. Mo Vaughn hit his third homer in his last two games, and Bret Boone well a double shy of hitting for the cycle. Rondell White also hit a two run homer in his only at bat of the game, a pinch hitting appearance. Although the offense in this game was plentiful, Butch Henry also tossed a solid seven innings, allowing only four runs on seven hits.

Thoughts: We're playing extremely well right now, as we've won our last six games in a row, but we're still making up minimal ground in the standings. We still sit five back of the Yankees for the divisional lead, and four back of the ChiSox for the Wild Card lead. And speaking of the White Sox, our next series is against them. We play them for three games in Chicago after an off day on the 11th. It's a huge series for us, and fortunately we've got our top three of Clemens, Suppan, and Moyer going. Hopefully we can keep playing well and pick up a game or two in the standings on them.
Also, just a quick re-visitation of the White-Canseco trade earlier in the season, and I'd say it looks fair right now:

Very, very frustrating game. Wilson Alvarez really shut down our offense, going eight innings and allowing only two runs (both homers), on four hits and no walks and striking out six. Vaughn, Cordero, and Frye were the only Red Sox hitters with hits. Clemens got his second loss of the season (first since mid-April), but really didn't pitch too badly. He went five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six.

This time out he went seven innings and allowed just two runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out a career high five batters. Unlike the first two games of the series, this game was not close at all. Rondell White, Wil Cordero, and Bret Boone were the main culprits at the plate, combining to go 8-15 with seven runs, four homers, and 10 RBI's. Jamie Moyer also pitched excellently, however, going all nine innings for the complete game, and allowing just one run on six hits and a walk, while striking out six.

Thoughts: Great series against the White Sox. We're still six back in the division, but now we're only three back in the Wild Card. We're thinking about doing a lot of things with the lineup right now. Naehring's batting average just dipped below .300 for the first time all season, and I'm taking that as a sign that it's time to find someone else to play third base. Trot Nixon still isn't pulling his weight in the line-up either. With Wil Cordero and Bret Boone both absolutely killing the ball I think they'll be taking Naehring and Nixon's places in the lineup very soon. I'm gonna give Nixon until the Yankee series at the end of the month to start hitting, but if that doesn't happen I'm sending him to AAA and turning RF over to Cordero on a full-time basis. Naehring, however, isn't so lucky, as I'm pulling him out of the lineup for Bret Boone immediately.

I'm beginning to think that the Aaron Sele experiment has run it's course. This time out he allowed six runs in 4+ innings to raise his ERA to 12.34 (16 runs in 11.2 IP since his call-up). Barry Larkin, shockingly enough, got a hit in this game, a homer in the ninth inning. Trot Nixon also went 2-4 with an RBI in a losing effort.

Butch Henry actually pitched a decent in game in spite of the loss. He went 6 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on ten hits. Again, not great, but solid. The big problem was the offense. We had plenty of opportunities to put runs on the board (leaving the bases loaded in the ninth inning, for example), but failed to do anything with these opportunities. Boone continued his hot hitting going 2-4 with a run and an RBI.

Well we managed to avoid getting swept, due in large part to a brilliant pitching effort by Roger Clemens, who went seven innings and allowed two runs on two hits and a walk, and struck out eight. Barry Larkin also busted out of his slump a little, going 2-4 with a run driven in. Boone just keeps killing the baseball, going 2-4 and getting another home run, and two runs and two RBI's.

Thoughts: A rough series puts us seven back in the division race, but we pulled to within two games of the White Sox for the Wild Card lead. I've officially decided to put the kibosh on the Aaron Sele experiment. His ERA is over 12, and Wakefield's ERA is a microscopic 1.02 in three starts at AAA. It's very disappointing to see Nomar's batting average drop 40 points since his injury as well, but hopefully he can bust out of his slump soon and get back into the .360-.370 range.

Thoughts: We're only a game back of the White Sox in the Wild Card race! We're still six back of the Yankees in the division, but I'll take what I can get. Mo Vaughn is quickly vaulting himself into MVP discussion with his play of late. In his last ten games he's hitting .457/.513/.886 with four homers and nine RBI's. He's making it really hard not to resign him right now. Before I was pretty sure I wasn't going to, because we're already seven million dollars over budget, but now I'm going to have to look into it.

I probably wouldn't re-sign him, personally. I think he's playing way over his head right now and will probably come back to earth before the season is over.

This. He is just going to cost more money. He is not that good at getting on base, so I wouldn't resign him. Just hope he hits well for the duration of his stay.. Dude, they need to make it so you get compensation picks in Mogul, so it is easier to let such players go. But of course, then they would probably also have to add more rounds to the draft..

the supplement round between the first and 2nd has to be added that is us 6-7 picks maybe more. Trying it for my league seeing if we can pull it off and also great dynasty and go bosox!!!

I probably still won't. I need to find a place for Wil Cordero to play on a semi-permanent basis, and 1B may be the best option for that once Vaughn leaves.

This is the trouble I'm having with letting him go. He's having a monster season and I really don't want to get NOTHING if I let him go. I might see if I can resign him just so I can trade him before the start of the season and get something out of it, lol.

Red Sox (42-30) @ Brewers (33-41)
Red Sox 10 - Brewers 6
Quite a game offensively. Nomar got two hits in six at bats and drove in a run, Bret Boone had four RBI's, and Mike Stanley was 2-3 with two doubles, two walks, and two runs. The most damage, however, came from Rondell White and Barry Larkin. White went 4-5 with a homer, two runs, two RBI's, and a steal, while Larkin went 3-5 with a walk, two runs, a triple, an RBI, and a steal. Henry had another solid start, going seven innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits, one walk, and striking out seven batters.

This game was quite frustrating. Clemens started the game out by shutting them out for the first six innings, but then allowed four runs to them in the seventh, before Mike Maddux came in and allowed a fifth. Slocumb allowed what proved to be the game-winning run an inning later. On the plus side Nomar got his second consecutive multi-hit game, which hopefully means he's breaking out of his slump.

Arguably the best game of the young Jeff Suppan's career. He went seven innings and allowed three runs on six hits and two walks, while striking out what is easily a career high eight batters. Nomar had another multi-hit game and hit his first home run since returning from injury, whilst Mo Vaughn had another two homer game and drove in three runs.

Thoughts: Nomar seems to be busting out of his mini-slump. He was 7-15 in the seriest against the Brewers with five runs, a homer and five RBI's, which is great news for us especially because we're playing the Yankees at the end of the week and we need his bat to be going if we're gonna pick up some ground on them. This series against the Tigers is Nixon's last chance to convince me that he belongs on the major league roster, too, and if not we're turning right field over to Wil Cordero.

SMOOOOOOKESHOW! A whole lotta offense from our line-up in this win over the Tigers. Trot Nixon must know I'm planning on pulling him out of the lineup if he keeps sucking because he went 2-4 with a home run and a double in this game to raise his average to .228. Mike Greenwell also drove in three runs for us. Moyer pitched another good game, going seven innings and allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks.

Wake actually didn't pitch too badly in the game, given it was against the Tigers. He went 5 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and two walks with four K's. Barry Larkin had a great game, going 2-5 with a run, two runs batted in, and three steals. Vaughn had another good game, going 3-4 with a walk, a run, and an RBI, too.

Down 4-3 in the eighth inning and Bret Boone rips a three run homer for the game-winning hit to help us complete the sweep! Butch Henry pitched a good game going seven innings and giving up three runs with four strikeouts. Mike Greenwell also played another good game, going 2-3 with a walk and scoring three times.

Thoughts: We're gonna go into the Yankees series coming off a sweep, which I personally think is a huge boost to us. We're also gonna have our top three of Clemens, Suppan, and Moyer going against them, and all have pitched well as of late, so I'm confident we'll be able to pick up a game or two on them in this series. We're currently sitting five back of them for the division, and only one back of the ChiSox for the Wild Card. Trot Nixon will also be staying in the line-up for the time being, as he's hitting very well of late with a line of .333/.415/.500 in his last ten games. I am going to insert Wil Cordero in his place against lefties, however. Wish me luck against the Yankees!

This game was absolutely infuriating. We are one spotty Heathcliff Slocumb appearance from winning this game. It didn't help that we really got shut down by Kamieniecki again, and I don't get how a guy with an ERA near 5.00 keeps killing us this season! This time he went eight innings and allowed only three runs on six hits and three walks. Nixon helped out the offense by going 2-4 with two RBI's, but it didn't matter. We really need to win these next two games against the Yankees.

This series is not going at all how I hoped it would. Suppan pitched his first poor game since being called up, allowing five runs (though only two were earned) on nine hits and one walk in 3 2/3 innings without striking anyone out. Larkin had himself a game going 4-4 with three doubles and a triple, but it was for naught. Hopefully with Moyer going in the next game we can at least win one of these games.

I can't believe I just got swept. Moyer got throttled, giving up five runs in 4+ innings. The offense played pretty well, but the entire pitching staff got roughed up so badly that it didn't matter.

Thoughts: That series against the Yankees did not go nearly as well as I was hoping it would. I figured with Clemens, Suppan, and Moyer going we'd have been able to win at least one of the three games, but we didn't even manage that. The sweep leaves us eight back in the division, all but killing any hopes of a division title for us, and three back for the Wild Card. We're on the road against the Blue Jays and Orioles, and then we've got the All-Star break. Which I am greatly looking forward to, so some of our guys like Mike Greenwell and Rondell White can get some rest, and hopefully we can get the ball rolling again.
Also I'm gonna hold off on the normal monthly update until after the Homerun Derby and All-Star game.
