Most people would like to leave something for their children/family...
Re: Jim Thorpe was a stud
The thing about Jim Thorpe...He won a bunch of Olympic medals but they were taken away when it was discovered that he had played professional baseball a few years earlier.

Well, in Thorpe's case, he ran out well before his death. Being aging, in poor health, and not knowing where your next meal is coming from is not a good combo.

I don't expect my parents to work all their life to give ME anything... and I wouldn't expect my kids to do that either. Their house maybe... but as far as any $$$ year right... they worked their a$$es off... let them spend it :D

I'm with this. I've told my mom that it is totally inappropriate for her to ever think anything along the lines of "If I take this vacation that's taking inheritance away from my kids". You earned it mom, you enjoy it.
I'll make more money than you did anyways-Insha'Allah

Children seldom make good choices with inheritance anyway.
Im with Fili, you live only once, enjoy the fruits of your labor.
Re: Jim Thorpe was a stud
Yeah I'm gonna consider raising me and helping me through college my inheritance.

After his death, the IOC allowed his medals to be restored to him.

You guys are right. That wasn't my point. My comment was this:

That is the mentality of most people with children. If I drop dead tomorrow am I going to want my young children and wife to struggle? Of course not.
I'm going to make a very wild guess that most of the people who disagreed with my comments do not have kids. because you guys are looking at it from a child's perspective and not the parents perspective. Yeah it's great that you guys don't want your parents supporting you but that has nothing to do with what I posted. To me my comments are basically common sense that has nothing to do with trust funds or anything like that.

Kinda. I just think that every parent wants their kids to be better off than they were. I want to make sure my family is protected in case something should happen to me. The older you get the less, I'm sure you worry about it. If I die when I'm ninety it's basically a mute point. But if I die when i'm 35 it's different. Once your kids get to a certain age you don't worry as much about it because hopefully they are making a good living on their own.
