I was thinking, since I've been noticing more spam than usual, would it be easy to add a Captcha to the registration page? It'd seem odd that vBulletin wouldn't have an easy-to-tick option for that.

No-brainer.
It's also surprising to me (I know we've been over all this before, and talked about associated FireFox plug-ins, and what-not...) that when you hide/plonk/kill-file a member it just basically "minimizes" their posts in the thread. I would think it would be fairly obvious you'd want any threads started by the "plonkee" to disappear completely, as well, as part of basic vBulletin functionality.

But, there is a Captcha... I think maybe it's been a while since you all signed up, but I instituted one ages ago. (At least, I thought I did. In fact, I even got a complaint that it wasn't blind-person-friendly,so I had to add a sound-option to it...)

Well, I guess if registration's free, there's no real downside. But, like HGM said, it seems like an awful waste of time to me.
There are programs that can read captchas, so it doesn't really matter.
I use a program called jdownloader that types in the captchas automatically to download files from sites like megaupload/rapidshare.

You can't keep someone from making threads before a certain number of posts, because a lot of people register just to ask one question about Mogul, or file a bug report, or something like that.
