we didn't need to make any, just resign holliday, add a few back ups....Cardinals don't need to improve this off-season, same with the red sox....free agency my friend can be just as valuable to a team.
but your mets.........now that's another story

Uh...
We have like 4 All-Stars in our starting lineup (Reyes, Bay, Beltran, Wright) and a good cast of supporting players (Francoeur, Pagan, Murphy, Castillo, etc), along with one of the best pitchers in baseball and an improved bullpen.
-
Re: Aroldis Chapman signs 30MM contract with NLC club
Don't forget Bengie Molina when Omar signs him to a 3/$70
-
Re: Aroldis Chapman signs 30MM contract with NLC club
(Francoeur, Pagan, Murphy, Castillo, etc)
Those aren't good role players...

Yeah we just signed Jason Bay.
And Henry Blanco to fill our backup catcher role.
And Alex Cora as a backup shortstop
And Ryota Igarashi, Clint Everts, Kelvim Escobar, Jay Marshall for the bullpen
And Chris Coste, Mike Hessman, Andy Green, Russ Adams, etc for depth... which we didn't have last year

The Mets really aren't that bad of a team. Last year they were wrecked by injuries.

doesn't look like you added much at all.
Bay, i mean, he should be pretty valuable, maybe not for what he will get paid...but hey, he isn't that bad.
the Mets need to be healthy, and get a pitching rotation.
I would have thought they would have tried for Lackey over Bay personally.

and you are right, they really aren't.
Murphy and Franky can be solid players at times.
but really they aren't solid role players that you can depend on.

3. Gary Sheffield LF
4. Daniel Murphy 1B
5. Jeff Francoeur RF
6. Fernando Tatis 3B

8. Anderson Hernandez SS

I'm sorry we can't all be the Mariners.
They're a pretty awesome supporting cast regardless of what you or your stats say.

if you could go back 3-4 years, Castillo, Sheff, Tatis and Hernandez would all be solid players :)

Grit. Determination. Hardwork. Grit. Toughness. Grit. Size of glove. Grit. Number of swings a player takes in a warm up. Grit. Shoe size. Grit. Toughness. Number of haircuts a player gets during a single season. Grit. Determination.
That's what makes a great ballplayer

He makes stupid mistakes all the time and doesn't have a knowledge of baseball fundamentals. His stats don't tell the full story here. You need to see him play to pass judgment.

You need to weigh stats with intangibles and scouting. Intangibles exist, I'm sorry you sabermetricians don't believe that.

I know they exist. But they don't make Jeff Francouer good all of the sudden.

Rocket arm, great defense (OMG, everyone else will say, HIS UZR IS SO LOW HOW CAN HE BE A GOOD DEFENDER), very good hitting for contact and for power, and intangibles

I had no idea a .271 career average hitter with 88 HR in six seasons was very good hitting. I am shocked.

Actually, his UZR paints the picture he's a good defender, but you know..

Not only that but a .432 slugging percent from a corner outfielder. Where's his plaque in Cooperstown!?

So we're in agreement. Sabermetricians can no longer say Frenchy is a bad defender.

It's about the timeliness of his hits

Not in the last two years (-4.7, -6.1). He had an absurd +16.5 arm rating in 2007. That's unrepeatable and the only thing keeping his overall UZR very high.

I'm just saying, if anything you can't complain about his UZR. Not that I expect him to be a + defender moving forward.
