The way I always understood it was that longevity was how quickly a players skills declined after their peak end age. For example if you had a 99 ovr WR whose peak ended at 35 with a longevity of 10, as soon as they passed that threshold their career would be pretty much over. But if you took the same receiver but changed his longevity to 500 he would still remain a viable option for a few years
