And I hope it's not about the Yankees getting worse...because there's no universe in which trading a fourth outfielder for a strong pitcher makes a team worse. Even if Vazquez is league average for 200 innings (which is what he was last time he was in New York...totally can't handle New York..), that's still more valuable than a fourth outfielder.
how was he a 4th outfielder? our 2nd best outfielder
and Viz was a stud to get rid of

Re: J. Vazquez traded for Melky Cabrera
2nd best? You're delusional. I'd take Damon over Cabrera.

Swisher and Granderson are both better.
His glove isn't good enough to be an everyday center fielder and his bat isn't close to being good enough to be an everyday corner outfielder. That's a fourth outfielder.

Cabrera is now blocked by Granderson. It makes no sense to keep Cabrera who can be an everyday player elsewhere if you aren't going to play him everyday. The market, in this case the Braves had a need, the Yankees needed a stronger, deeper rotation, and they got it by unloading an extra outfielder.
This trade makes total sense for New York....not as much, but still makes sense for Atlanta.

I hope Cano and Melky can work out a long distance relationship.

4th best OF behind Damon, Swisher and Gardner. Gardner's defense puts him ahead of Melky, who is still searching for his first 100 OPS+ season. You might be the only Yankee fan upset with this deal, unless of course you're funnin' us.

I'm thinking it's the classic example of the fan overestimating the talent of the players he cheers for.

I'm praying that Wren needed this prospect to spin to San Diego for Gonzalez, but based on what we know, here is my expert analysis of the trade:
-
Re: J. Vazquez traded for Melky Cabrera
hahaha
that would be the only reason this trade can be valuable to Atlanta, is if they know it will land them Adrian, in which, it helps New York even MORE, because he didn't go to Boston.
-
Re: J. Vazquez traded for Melky Cabrera
They are consenting adults, so you should be OK with it.

He's not. I know a few Yankee fans that don't like it.

Re: J. Vazquez traded for Melky Cabrera
I dont get it. Why does everyone think Vazquez is the 2nd coming? He is the perfect national league pitcher, but is horrible in the AL. Melky can provide a great all position OF with a rocket arm. His defense is average, but he adds a lot to a team. As Yankee fan, I hate this trade.

Vazquez is, at the very worst, a very durable league average pitcher. Career ERA+ in the AL is 102, in the NL is slightly better at 110. Getting that for a fourth outfielder, middle reliever and far-off pitching prospect is a steal.
-
Re: J. Vazquez traded for Melky Cabrera
I know it was the right trade. The hard thing is the sentimentality factor. Melky was a player who busted his ass off on a team of superstars. While the rest of the team sat around, it was always he and Jeter on the rail watching and supporting. I will miss that guy and Atlanta picks up a quality backup.
The real effect is putting Joba into the setup/closer role where he belongs so it makes absolute sense. Also, Vazquez is still young and as good as any other pitcher that went free agent this year. I just remember him coming out of Montreal as the next Pedro and then it went to Hell. I shouldnt allow bad memories of the guy cloud my judgement since he is now a reliable 2-3 pitcher.

Re: J. Vazquez traded for Melky Cabrera
Vazquez's numbers are almost identical from AL to NL why is everyone calling him an NL pitcher?
Is Ozzie Guillen's opinion really that valuable?
He's a league average pitcher who had great stuff last season. Melky no longer had a starting job. Sorry, the smart thing to do is ship him.
