look out mets fans we on the move...
to the celler lol
Omar really has done a TERRIBLE job with the team... aside from spending a fortune on beltran (which was worth the investment don't get me wrong) and getting Santana... what has he done. Those 2 alone were VERY good moves and he was helped by the Mets not being in the AL with Minny on the Santana... but still I must commend him on it.
He has destroyed the team with some VERY poor moves... getting Castillo was not a bad move... signing that STUPID contract was a VERY poor move... Keeping Delgado and not getting in on Texeria last year was dumb. Oliver to 3 years when NOONE else was giving him ANYTHING, Not going after ANY pitchers last year was dumb, CC, AJ, Lowe, Wolf, etc getting Putz AND K-Rod after not so great years was dumb. Church for Francouer was a good deal, but man... all these other bad moves...
Then they sit on their ass this year... I mean honestly.. I think players might not take them so seriously... I mean Bay is BEGGING for 5 years... they offer it and he wont jump to play on a big stage, to be a hero on that team, coming in to be the "go to guy" like he was with the sox a year and 1/2 ago.
It just seams like the mets don't know what they are doing... I don't understand most of their moves. I mean being a braves fan I cant root for them to be good... but I miss the good rivalry... It was fun watchng the 2 fight it out at the end of the year... now it makes me think of playing the nats at the end of the year.
We all know the Mets will blow, but let's try and guess what metsguy's prediction for the Mets will be.
I'll say 147 wins.
Assuming Oliver Perez gets 5 starts before being yanked I'm gonna guess 157.
1962 anyone?
Is it just me or do a lot of his moves seem racially motivated?
This is exactly what I've been thinking.
Omar is biased towards Latino players. He makes sure to keep a few token whites, a token black (eg. Sheffield, Marlon Anderson) and a token Asian (e.g. Takahashi, Iggy) on the team so he can act like he's being tolerant.
He's a racist and he needs to be fired.
If I am speaking out of turn someone let me know, but there has been a good number of white/black A free agents the last few seasons and the Mets havent made a push for any of those guys.
Burnett, CC, Tex, etc.
I would think in a market like New York they would at least try to make a run, especially with their new stadium opening, you would think they could have acquired one A free agent last year.
Dont know, I dont want to believe this is the case, but with Lackey and and chances are Bay going elsewhere, dont really know what to think.
They did go after an A free agent last year. Their biggest need was the bullpen and they signed the best one on the market (who had just came off a record setting year) in K-Rod. They then made a trade that, at the time, looked really good. They didn't give up anything and they got a guy who in 05-06 was one the of the best relievers in the game.
However, he neglected to address the team's obvious issues in Left and their lack of organizational depth. He also got desperate and signed Perez to that abysmal contract. If the team had been able to stay healthy, they probably would have competed for the Wild Card. However, their lack of depth combined with their injuries ruined them.
The mets are all spanish or whites from Virgina.

Oh, good, I was looking for a good opportunity to post this.

If you think Omar Minaya only goes after "certain players" it's because you want to believe the poorly performing GM of your favorite baseball team favors one race over another. It's because you want to believe he has some sort of scheme to decrease the number of non-Latinos in baseball, or to increase money paid out to Latinos in this country. Criticizing his moves in the strict baseball context is not enough for you - it has to become personal, an assault on Omar's character. As always, you're free to have these beliefs, but you're flat-out wrong.
Looks like the Mets are making a hard push for Jason Bay
From THIS point fwd, its only gonna get ugly.
