Cy Young ballot expanded from 3 to 5

After a process in which St. Louis' Adam Wainwright received the most first-place votes but not the NL Cy Young award, the Baseball Writers Association of America is changing the ballot for the award.
A motion made by the New York Daily News' Mark Feinsand to expand the size of the ballot from three to five was approved by a 47-26 vote as a meeting of the BBWAA on Tuesday. A three-player ballot, as is used in Rookie and Manager of the Year voting, had been used since 1970. Feinsand said his proposal was note made as a response to Tim Lincecum winning the award in a vote in which Carpenter was left off two ballots last ballots.
I'm fine with this. Why not expand the rookie ballot too, though?

Also, Sean Forman got invited to be a BBWAA member. For those that don't know, he is the creator and webmaster of baseball-reference.

I wonder if this would have actually changed the NL result.

It wouldn't have. I don't know how the points are divvied up under the new system, but a poster over at BTF figured it a few different ways, assuming Chris Carpenter got 2 4th place votes (as he very likely would have):

How about 10-5-3-2-1?
Lincecum.....197
Carpenter....185
Wainwright...190
Hmm, that hurts Carpenter. Let's try 10-7-5-3-1:
Lincecum.....239
Carpenter....229
Wainwright...230
