MLB Players Want A Longer Division Series
Just read about this and I personally don't like it. I enjoy the first round being a shorter series but if supposebly the players association wants it to be a best of 7 series, then so be it. I hate it when all these professional playoffs get dragged out. It was probably the worst thing the NBA did with their first round. I don't know, but I guess from a fan aspect I would rather see the first round a best of 5. I can see the benefits for players though.

Well, the number of games in a series aren't the problem as much as the number of off days.

Wouldn't you think they would increase the amount of days off with an increased series. I know it is a bad example, but the NBA did it when they added on to the first round. It seemed like the days off got worse as well.

Combined with a week shorter season and you got something.

Longer divisional series, less off days in the playoffs. Force teams to have to use a four man rotation. Hope it happens.

That is convincing to me.
Re: MLB Players Want A Longer Division Series
They should have cut down the number of games in a season as soon as they included the wildcards. 162 games made sense when you are only taking a few teams into the playoffs. Now that over a quarter of the teams in the league are making the playoffs, the longer season really isn't needed. And making one playoff series less games than the rest makes no sense either, as they are all equally important.

Care to explain how the wildcards should affect the number of games played per season?

Let us assume that the purpose of the regular season is to choose the very best teams that year to go to the playoffs.
Let us also assume that the more games you play in the regular season increases the chances of getting the very best teams into the playoffs and vice versa.
Let us also assume that the greater percentage of teams you allow into the playoffs, the greater the chance that the very best teams get into the playoffs.
If those assumptions are true, then because there are a greater percentage of teams in the playoff than ever, there should be less need for as many games.
