I wasn't sure.
But I don't see why you don't retain Gonzo instead of signing an outsider like Wagner and possibly lose a pick.

You'll be getting one, possible two, picks for Gonzalez leaving.

That is what I was asking, what is Gonzo worth.

ah gotcha... dont know if the 8+ is right... but the braves dont pay long term for relievers... I honestly cant remember the last time they gave a contract of more than 2-3 years MAX on a reliever
Re: Braves To Sign Billy Wagner
Gonzo would cost much more than Wagner.

The Atlanta Braves needed bullpen help and they signed one of the best relievers available in Billy Wagner.
But the price is too high, and Wagner isn't good or reliable enough right now to merit giving up a first-round draft pick.
That's just the short version, obviously, but I 100% agree. The price is just too high for Wagner.
Re: Braves To Sign Billy Wagner
Does it really count that they gave up a pick, if they're just gonna get more picks back?
I understand that they could just keep all of them, but that makes the deal a lot more justifiable in my view.

I don't think so. It doesn't hurt them AS MUCH, but like you said, why waste one on a 38 year old coming off TJ surgery who never pitched back to back games except once?
Regardless of how you look at it, good or bad, it's not a terrible signing.
