Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
interesting... I like the move... I dont wnat to hear about it all year long again.
after last years crap anyway.
I think it kinda makes Roy look like a juerk giving them a timetable like that and forcing their hand but honestly they did it to themselves

I agree. It's better to have this deadline so the whole process doesn't drag out too damn long. I hate anticipations, haha.
Re: Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
damn, it was already posted
Re: Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
Good, I don't want a huge distraction like last year come June and July.
Re: Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
and wouldn't you rather just go ahead and move on with the new players? If you know he won't be a blue jay next year, why not just do it now?

Yeah I guess, I do enjoy watching Halladay pitch quite a bit though.

J.P. Ricciardi did it to them on his way out the door.
There, fixed that for ya! :D
Everybody and their dog knows the Jays are going to trade Halladay this offseason, so I don't see how this changes things much, except that now it's been confirmed. If he shows up on Day 1 of Spring Training, the hand wringing begins 30 seconds after he walks into the Bobby Mattick Complex and doesn't end until he's been traded. As a Jays fan, no thanks, I'll pass. I'd rather get this over with and move forward without the best player in team history than undergo that s**tstorm again. Anthopoulos will get it done quietly and he won't have to lead the media on, basking in all the added attention, in order to do it. He'll just get 'er done.
I don't think it makes Roy look like a jerk. If anything, it makes him look self-aware. He knows he's uncomfortable with the ridiculous speculation that J.P. put him through last year and he doesn't want it to happen again. From all appearances the Halladays (Roy and Brandy) are humble, classy people and they deserve far better treatment than they received last July. At one point in July, Brandy was in the booth promoting the annual Lady Jays (players' wives and girlfriends) Food Drive and she burst into tears, while discussing what had obviously been a very stressful time for the whole family. I don't think he wants to put them through that again, and who can blame him? Obviously as a fan I'll miss the guy, but at this point trading him this offseason is by far the lesser of the two evils.
Here's a tremendous article on what he had to go through to become the pitcher/person he is today. Whatever team acquires him is getting far more than a top 5 MLB starting pitcher. They're getting a mentor for their kid pitchers and a secondary pitching coach. Enjoy!
Re: Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
do you guys REALLY think that this is going to make the Blue Jay GM jump at an offer?? if he doesn't see what he likes surely we'll hear about this midseason and don't be so quick to think Halladay wouldn't then jump at the bit to play for a contender. I understand Halladay's move here.....but i'd call his bluff if it meant taking a less than market value.
Re: Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
I think honestly this is going to make the Blue Jays sit on Halladay even more. I don't think it increases any likelihood he'll be traded. I think this will make teams who want him be forced to move key pieces they may not want to in order to acquire him, though. Making the likelihood that the Jays will walk away with a huge steal higher.

Answered in post above, and no I wouldn't call his bluff. He's a class act and it's time to stop dicking around and take care of a guy who's given everything he has to the organization. Alex Anthopoulos will get it done, but he won't have to "jump" at an offer. It may be an offer that's somewhat in line with (though hopefully much better than) the Cliff Lee offer, but it's time to move forward.

Agreed, since they can't wait until later in the season to see if they really want to part with the package. We better get quite a haul in return for Doc.

Great article. That's part of the reason it'll be hard for me to see Roy go.
So there. Halladay ftw. :D
Re: Roy Halladay Sets Deadline For Trade
If they Yankees get him they are the front runner for the World Series for the next 4 years and Boston, LAD, LAA, Philly, Cubs and the Mets know this.
There will be a bidding war to get him.
Personnally I would take Roy over any other pitcher (except maybe Lincecum) in baseball.
