I never said Ryan Howard wouldn't upgrade the Mets at first base. I said trading Johan Santana for him is braindead dumb.
Because we have pitchers that can fill in amiably for Santana.

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
and you're gonna dump Santana's payroll and lock up Howard?
Pretty sure you are just making the Phillies better here, for longer.

do you have 5 pitchers that can replace Santana?

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously

Uh....
John Maine? Mike Pelfrey? Oliver Perez?
Yeah, they're certainly some of the top pitchers in the league.

When we sign J-Lackz and/or Pinny we'll be filled out.

John Lackey isn't Johan Santana's caliber.
Also, Pinny? Who?
All of this is moot, anyway, since there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of it even being discussed.

Thats easy, Penny Hardaway of course. Remember the guard from the Magic, he was awesome!

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
Brad Penny? To replace Johan Santana?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Um no... Pinny isn't Penny.... I think I can spell
Apparently no one is aware of the existence of this fellow named Joel Pineiro.

score! i loved him !

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
At this point it's probably best to just ignore metsguy. If he wants to fill a rotation up his imaginary rotation with Joe Pineiro or Oliver Perez as his ace just let him.

I very highly doubt he will perform ever again like he did this year, remember, he also had solid d with Ryan and pujols behind him. as well fill in players that are better than reyes and castillo.
although, Wright isn't a bad third basemen.
You would trade Santana for Howard?
Honestly? or are you just playing?
because there is no way you will replace Santana unless you get someone like Lincecum or Halladay to help.
It makes literally no sense what so ever.
and pitching is so much more valuable than a strike out, homer hitting first basemen. Much less an incredible starting pitcher.

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
Oh. Replace Johan Santana with Joel Pineiro.
Makes MUCH more sense...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
i have never heard him called Pinney.....and i have watched him for two and a half years.

See, I call players by their...you know...names.
And Joel Pineiro is not close to John Lackey's caliber, let alone Johan Santana.
-
Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
Jeffy, im sure you watched a lot of Cardinals games this year, did they ever refer to Joel Pineiro as Pinny?
edit: Just saw you answered my question, its like you can see into the future man! :)

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
hahaha, that's funny.
sorry MG, funny though.

It's a nickname I made up just now.

Nobody calls John Lackey "J-Lackz" either. Metsguy just enjoys making up stupid nicknames that only he uses.

Howard could give us value every day. Santana could give us value once every 5 days. The difference is clear to me IMO.

This is the most tired and incorrect statement bandied about that is technically true. Yes, starters only pitch every 5 days...but they have a much greater impact on the games that they do play in. In fact, a starter who plays all year will have more plate appearances against him than an everyday player that plays all year will make. Being an everyday player does not make you more valuable than every starting pitcher.
Adam Everett can give you value every day, too, but would you take him over Johan Santana?

I know you are joking, even you know that logic doesn't work.
Santana gives you value on every pitch every 5th day. Howard gets 20 at bats every 5th day.

Yeah he can play defense and is kinda fast. Johan can only play defense once every five days:rolleyes:

So Santana has equal value if he pitches 6 2/3 innings. That's hardly a given.

Uh, no, not necessarily how that works.
Also, Santana averaged nearly exactly 6.2 innings per start in 2009. More than that in 2008.

Re: Albert Pujols wins NL MVP unanimously
I was wrong. Now that I think about it, we could easily get a free-agent 1B or something, so we don't need to trade Santana to get Howard. It was a silly idea.
