I thought the Dodgers should have gave up Billingsley or Kershaw and others to get Halladay at the trade deadline. I believe it they would have they may have been able to get past the Phillies.
Who else would the Jays need to get this done?
I wouldn't do it now. Why give up prospects when you can wait until the next off-season when Manny comes off the books and just sign him?
Giving up Kershaw for Halladay would be stupid.

I think that if the Jays want to deal Halladay, it will be in late June or into July, for a team desperate to make the playoffs, a-la CC in 2008.
...So you can beat the Yankees/Red Sox to the punch and get him signed up to an extension through 2014 before they can get their "greedy" paws on him. I don't think he wants to go out west anyway though and he holds all the cards with his NTC. As for the Jays needs kellys11, pick a position on the diamond aside from 2B, LF and possibly 1B if Adam Lind is able to successfully make the switch there. I think the last time he played there was college. C and SS are particularly huge black holes both on the big league team and in the system and of course high upside SP is always welcome, particularly when you're giving up arguably the best SP of the last 7 or 8 years. AOW, I'm a Jays homer, but I have enough sense to know Kershaw's not going anywhere and Kemp's a less than 1% chance to be included. The Jays should be looking for high upside guys who are maybe a year or two away from the majors. That would be a very hard sell to Joe Retard Jays Fan, who seems to make up 90% of Jays fandom and 99% of those who post in the comments sections of online major media outlets. But if AA (Alex Anthopoulos) makes deals to satisfy the hockey fans/fantasy baseball players who jam the phone-in shows up here with suggestions like: "Let's trade with team A. We'll take All-Star B and give them AAAA players C, D, and E." he'll find himself sitting with them sooner than he'd like. If he tries the J.P. approach (i.e. see how fast you can get the opposing GM to hang up the phone), we'll be getting compensation picks from whoever signs him in the 2010-2011 offseason. I think he'll get it done this offseason and I think he'll fall victim to the fact that all 30 teams are looking to build from within these days and are hanging onto their prospects like gold. The trade has to happen and the timing could not be worse. Even three or four years back, he could've made out like a bandit, but now I don't envy him. :(
I took that in to consideration, but because Kershaw was included it's in no way worth it. I'm sure I don't need to tell you AJ because you probably already know, but for those who don't, Kershaw actually had better peripherals than Cliff Lee this year. If I'm the Dodgers, I'm willing to trade Billingsley or Loney for him (plus others). Loney is what he is. A .750-.790 OPS player and Billingsley...eh. He's not what I'd call a big game pitcher. 1-2, 6.88 ERA in his playoff career.
For a team that has lost in the LCS the last two years, it's a move that almost needs to be made. Especially for a team sans an ace.

If their biggest weakness was their starting pitching, why would they trade away a 25-year old starting pitcher? The only category he seriously regressed in this year was ERA/ERA+, and that's much less under his control than BB/9, K/9, and HR/9 all of which were slightly off from last year's ratios and were in line with his career numbers.
