Probably a Detroit writer. The two Detroit writers that voted for the 2007 AL MVP were the only two to give Magglio Ordonez first place votes instead of Alex Rodriguez.

Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
I was right, from the ESPN article:
Quote:
The first-place votes for Hernandez came from Chris Assenheimer of The Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria, Ohio, and Mark Feinsand of the Daily News In New York. Verlander's first-place vote was cast by Steve Kornacki of Booth Newspapers in Michigan.

Figures. It is kind of like the 2007 Cy Young. A lot of the votes were between CC Sabathia and Josh Beckett, but there was one vote for John Lackey, who I believe was a California writer.

Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
Steve Kornacki is a moran, in case you're wondering. He suggested the Tigers trade Edwin Jackson and Carlos Guillen to the Dodgers for George Sherrill and Juan Pierre a couple weeks ago.

Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
Juan Pierre puts up good batting averages!

Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young

HGM's opinions are not facts!
Except when they are factual.
-
Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
I'm very surprised that Greinke won.

I expected the fact that he played for a last place Royals team to get in the way.

Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
I didn't expect it to be this big of a blow out but I still had faith he was going to win it.

What, you want an above average hitter and a solid #2 starter for a setup man and some overrated singles hitter? I'm shocked.

Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
When is Greinke's contract up again so the Yankees can sign him?
-
Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young

Sadly for KC, unless they somehow magically get good, there is no way in hell they are keeping him from the Yankees whenever his contract is up.

get rid of Dayton Moore and then you have a good start.........wait, he is signed through 2014 though.
-
Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
Trade him to Colorado. We'll trade the Royals Garret Atkins and Brad Hawpe for Zack Grienke.
-
Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
is the n.l winner announced tomorrow?
-
Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
I think Thursday. I believe tomorrow is Managers of the Year.

Of course the Mets could sign him, guarenteeing he will get hurt.

Metsguy wouldn't want to sign him since he "still has issues".

Cy Young I don't believe has much of a winning team factor incorporated into the decision. If the guy produces, he deserves it, maybe even more since he is on a bad team. How about Pedro Martinez when he was on a very unimpressive Expos team.

Re: Zack Greinke wins AL Cy Young
Lookout Landing :
Quote:
Since 2000 - covering the last ten years - there have been 428 American League starter seasons with at least 150 innings pitched. Here's how Felix's 2009 ranks among them:
ERA: #5
FIP: #17
Combined*: #8
* (2*ERA + 6*FIP)/8. A quick and dirty way of still giving starters some credit for their context pitching. This stat sucks and please never use it.
Of course, neither ERA nor FIP are adjusted for park, so Felix gets a boost, but he was still excellent, and the unfortunate coincidence that Zack Greinke was better doesn't take away from the fact that Felix still had a Cy Young-caliber season. No reason to be disappointed.
The top three AL starter seasons since 2000: Pedro Martinez 2000, Pedro Martinez 2002, and Pedro Martinez 2003. Pedro Martinez 2001 would have qualified had he thrown another 33.1 innings. Between 1999-2003 - covering five years, 135 starts, and 933 innings - Pedro ran a 2.10 ERA and 1.94 FIP. He allowed 133 runs between 1999-2001. Jose Contreras and Scott Olsen allowed 134 runs in 2007. This really happened.
Pedro is awesome.

Yeah when it's local media he can be lively and joke around and all that..but when it's national media and stuff...he just wants to get through it and talk as little as possible lol
