Re: Granderson and friends
The only way they move Granderson is if they are wowed and Austin Jackson just had a really really weird year fueled by a crazy high BABIP and no power. Any trade involving Granderson and the Yankees is gonna need more than Jackson as a 'centerpiece'. He's not that great of a prospect, certainly not on the level of Granderson.
Anyways, I doubt Granderson is going to be seriously talked about. Just like with waivers you're gonna see a lot of big names being brought up that teams are honestly not going to get rid of. If Detroit moves anyone it's going to be Jackson, but it probably won't be unless they're wowed by a deal or if he has a good first half next season.
Re: Granderson and friends
I forgot to mention, Gardner is your best bet in CF, not Melky. Gardner is the better runner and kills Cabrera defensively.
Re: Granderson and friends
Im still not sold on Gardner and probably never will be.
That said, Detroit has announced that they will be slashing payroll. They have too many long term contracts and want to unload. Granderson will go. To whom, I dont know. The NYY is my pipe dream.

I don't see why they would considering Ordonez is coming off the books after this year and his salary is huge.

A lot of contracts are bad, so you can expect other GMs to have little interest. But a couple of players -- Granderson, Edwin Jackson -- have trade value. Talk is sparked.
And then the media got word of it.
Well, you know what the national media think of the Tigers. The prevailing storyline heading into the 2009 season was to expect the Tigers to fall behind in the standings, and watch as they become the first team to have a fire sale. Why? Because their payroll was high, and Michigan has economic problems.
A safe prediction to make right? Whoops.
So now, I think history is repeating itself. The Tigers still have too high a payroll. The economy is still bad. And the Tigers' general manager is shopping a few of his players around.
Financial problems in Detroit! Firesale, straight ahead!
Or not.
So, as I was saying, what does it mean?
Despite the myth of owner Mike Ilitch's deep pockets, I think it's a sign the Tigers really won't be able to do much of anything on the free agent market due to financial constraints. They will improve themselves on the trade market if that is at all possible. But I don't believe Dombrowski feels pressured to trade any players if he can't improve his team's chances in 2010 and beyond.
Winning consistently is the reason they play the game, and it's what we ask for. Any player could be traded. Even fan favorites.
But there's really no reason to fear a firesale this offseason.
And like I said, even if they do shop Granderson and trade him, they can get better than a package centered around Austin Jackson.

I agree. 1) I said I only know the Yanks 2) I said it was a pipe dream. Now ****ing relax
Granderson is as good as gone as well as a good portion of the Tigers. Detroit is getting slammed due to the economy. Sponsors are pulling out rapidly.

lol, I'm not even getting worked up over it. Just pointing stuff out. If you don't want people to reply to it then make a blog or something.
Re: Granderson and friends
Not worked up. Just sick of people posting links to articles without any thoughts of their own. As for blogging, I'll stick to porn.

There's nothing wrong with taking advice from people, especially when it's about a team I don't normally follow and it makes logical sense. :|

There's a fine line between thinking for yourself and pulling *meep* out of your ass.
Re: Granderson and friends
I think there is only a few teams that can pull off this type of trade and it would be the teams with the most possible prospects that the Tigers can receive. That would most likely include the Red Sox, Phillies, and the Yankees.
The Yankees can make just about any kind of move and move around their players in order to fit a player like Granderson, just like it was noted previously above.
I previously heard this past season that the Phillies have a lot of prospects to offer in their system but I don't believe their team is in a desperate need for Granderson as their outfield and even their whole lineup was pretty comparable to most AL lineups. Their main forcus is a third baseman and relief help anyways.
The Red Sox definately have the prospects to make the trade (depends if they are willing to unload a lot) and I am sure they wouldn't mind shifting around the outfield to accomodate to Granderson if Jason Bay is not resigned. Even though there is already 2 catchers on the Sox, I am sure they would be willing to take on Lair and have him start catching, Martinez to firstbase and youkilis to 3rd, if maybe some how the Red Sox are ready to let go of Lowell. The Sox would take Edwin Jackson with no problem, because they love stacking up all sorts of starting pitchers on the roster. Of course I am not sure what I would rather have, another speedy outfielder but can do just about everything or have a power source in the middle of the lineup.
If there is another team that could have potential of unloaded numerous prospects I would love to hear people ideas on this.
Re: Granderson and friends
The Giants come to mind when talking about a team that needs offense and has prospects.
Re: Granderson and friends
The Tigers are not slashing payroll. No one with the organization has announced anything like that. It's just a bunch of speculation from dumb writers that have nothing better to do.

Haha, yeah I am totally lost when it comes to a lot of NL west coast teams. I did a little research and found out a little more about their prospects. Here is rough list of the following:
Buster Posey (Catcher)
Madison Bumgarner (P)
Tim Alderson (P)
Angel Villalona (1B)
Conor Gillaspie (3B)
Nick Noonan (2B)
Henry Sosa (P)
The first two are definately the Giant's biggest prospects and look to be almost major league ready for this year. Now that you brought up the Giants 200tang, they definately got the prospects, but do we expect them to possibly give up a handful of these guys? I personally am not too sure. I may go for it if I were the Giants, just because you will get decently young players in return and they have all basically have proven themselves, but you will definately have to clear out most of your prospects which the organization has spent most of their money on from what I have read.

It's always fun to talk about no matter how absurd it is, lol!
